China pledges to peacefully resolve territorial disputes

According to Reuters/AP/Kyodo, on May 21, Chinese President Xi Jinping declared that Beijing is committed to peacefully resolving disputes over territorial sovereignty, while warning other countries that strengthening military alliances against third parties will not benefit security.

In his opening speech at the 4th Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) summit in Shanghai, Xi Jinping called for the establishment of a new Asian security cooperation structure based on a regional grouping that includes Russia and Iran but excludes the United States.

"We need to innovate security cooperation and establish a new regional security cooperation structure, completely eliminating the outdated Cold War mentality," Xi Jinping said.
