This is a traditional festival that reflects the identity of the fishermen in the Quynh Luu coastal region, preserved, maintained, and promoted by the local authorities of Son Hai commune.
(Baonghean.vn) - Every year at the beginning of the new year, fishermen in Son Hai commune, Quynh Luu district, joyfully organize the fishing festival to pray for a year of favorable weather and abundant seafood catches. This is a traditional festival that reflects the identity of the fishermen in the Quynh Luu coastal region, preserved, maintained, and promoted by the local authorities of Son Hai commune.
The 2014 Fishing Festival in Son Hai commune was held on February 11th and 12th (corresponding to the 12th and 13th days of the Year of the Horse). The festival consisted of two main parts: the ceremonial part and the festive part.
The ceremonial part is held solemnly, including the opening ceremony, the announcement ceremony, the fishing prayer ceremony, the grand sacrifice ceremony, and the thanksgiving ceremony at the procession points such as Trung Temple, Thoi Temple, the Memorial Monument, Yen Thai Pagoda... praying for a new year with favorable weather, national peace and prosperity, calm seas, abundant seafood catches, a bountiful fishing season, and safety for everyone and their vessels on each fishing trip. The festive part is organized in a lively, joyful, healthy, and economical manner with activities such as cultural exchanges, volleyball, tug-of-war, and boat racing.

Mr. Tran Van Hung, Chairman of the Son Hai Commune People's Committee, said, "This is a traditional festival of the local fishermen, associated with the launching ceremony for seafood exploitation. Coming to the festival, every citizen, especially the fishermen, feels excited and more secure for the new year. Besides the meaning of praying for a year of smooth sailing and abundant catches, the fishermen of Son Hai also demonstrate their determination to unite in protecting fishing grounds, upholding national sovereignty in the sea of the Fatherland, and working together to build an increasingly prosperous life."

It is known that on this occasion, coastal communes such as Quynh Nghia and Tien Thuy also hold the annual fishing prayer ceremony.
The Fishing Festival is a unique traditional festival of the fishermen in the Quỳnh Lưu coastal region, aiming to honor traditional cultural values and meet the folk religious needs of the fishermen.
