Vietnam Airlines will arrange three flights from Hanoi to Egypt in the next three days to bring 724 Vietnamese workers back home from conflict zones in Libya.

A representative of Vietnam Airlines has just announced that it will coordinate with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs and Hyundai Engineering Co., Ltd. (Korea) to conduct 3 flights from Hanoi to Cairo (Egypt) on August 9, 10 and 11 to bring 724 Vietnamese workers from conflict areas in Libya back to Vietnam. These workers are being taken to Egypt by authorities before returning to Vietnam.

Vietnam Airlines is rushing to complete procedures to request permission to fly to 10 countries, and arrange ground services at the destination airport to carry out the flights. In addition, the airline has arranged a pre-arrival team to go to Egypt in advance to coordinate with agencies to prepare to welcome workers.

Due to the arrangement of aircraft to Egypt, VNA's flight schedule will be disrupted from August 9 to August 12, the airline will have to temporarily suspend 8 flights from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City.

According to the Consular Department (Ministry of Foreign Affairs), there are currently about 1,550 Vietnamese workers working in 15 localities in Libya, including the capital Tripoli. The majority of workers are still in areas where there has not been any fighting.

Twelve companies sending workers to Libya are now preparing to repatriate Vietnamese workers near dangerous areas. The remaining workers are still in contact with Vietnamese diplomatic and management agencies.

The Prime Minister also asked ministries to prepare plans and timing to bring all Vietnamese workers in Libya back home when the situation worsens. In addition, the Ministry of Labor can use the Overseas Employment Support Fund to buy air tickets for workers to return home in cases where employers are unable to pay.
