Quy Chau: 2nd Congress of Representatives of Ethnic Minorities
(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of June 18th, the People's Committee of Quy Chau district inaugurated the Second Congress of Ethnic Minority Representatives, 2014. Attending the conference were Mr. Lo Xuan Vinh, Deputy Head of the Provincial Ethnic Affairs Committee; Mr. Nguyen Xuan Hong, Deputy Director of the Department of Health; delegates from Que Phong and Quy Hop districts; former key officials of the district from various periods; and 150 official delegates representing the ethnic groups in the district.

The Congress assessed that, after 5 years of implementing the reform process, Quy Chau district has achieved many successes in economic, cultural-social development, and national security and defense. Production value increased year after year, from 350 billion VND in 2009 to 1,073 billion VND in 2013; growth rate increased from 6.53% in 2009 to 9.4% in 2013; average per capita income increased from 8.1 million VND/person in 2009 to 14 million VND/person in 2013; and the poverty rate decreased by an average of 4-5% per year.
Furthermore, under the leadership of the Party, the people of all ethnic groups in the area have upheld the tradition of patriotic solidarity and actively participated in patriotic emulation movements. They have worked together to achieve comprehensive achievements in all areas of socio-economic development, maintaining national defense and security, building national unity, and strengthening the political system...
Speaking at the Congress, Mr. Lo Xuan Vinh, Deputy Head of the Provincial Ethnic Affairs Committee, praised the achievements of the ethnic minority people of Quy Chau district and highly appreciated the efforts of Quy Chau district in socio-economic development in general and the development of ethnic minorities in particular. He reminded the district that in the coming time, it needs to focus on the key task of effectively implementing the Party and State's ethnic policies, promoting socio-economic development based on the local potential and strengths, and encouraging ethnic minorities to continue striving to improve production and alleviate poverty.
On the other hand, localities need to pay more attention to training and development to build a team of ethnic minority cadres that meets the requirements of the tasks. They must effectively implement ethnic policies, build a strong national unity, combat the enemy's subversive plots, and maintain political security and social order in the area…
The congress elected 23 delegates (including 2 alternate delegates) to attend the upcoming Provincial Congress of Ethnic Minorities. On this occasion, 6 collectives and 33 individuals with outstanding achievements in the development of ethnic minorities received certificates of commendation from the District People's Committee. 2 collectives and 6 individuals were awarded by the Provincial People's Committee for their outstanding achievements in organizing the Hang Bua Festival in 2014.
