Hidden dangers from rivers and streams

(Baonghean) - With the hot season now beginning, in mountainous districts such as Tuong Duong, Ky Son, Con Cuong... children in areas near rivers and streams love to go swimming together.

In Binh Son 1 village, Ta Ca commune (Ky Son district), we encountered a large number of local children bathing in the Nam Mo River at midday. Upon inquiring, we learned that among the children bathing were of various ages, and many who didn't know how to swim were joining their older siblings.

Due to the characteristics of the mountainous terrain, the rivers and streams flow strongly and swiftly. Furthermore, in some mountainous districts such as Ky Son, Tuong Duong, and Con Cuong, the water regime is uneven due to the opening and closing of hydroelectric dams, making swimming in rivers and streams extremely dangerous to children's lives...

Many tragic accidents have occurred. We urge all levels of government and parents to pay more attention to this situation to prevent such unfortunate incidents.
