Ministry of Foreign Affairs organizes ASEAN flag raising ceremony and Vietnam national flag

On the morning of August 8, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Headquarters, Hanoi, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs held a ceremony to raise the ASEAN flag and the Vietnamese national flag to celebrate the 47th anniversary of the founding of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) (August 8) and the 19th anniversary of Vietnam's accession to ASEAN (July 28).

Attending the flag-raising ceremony were: Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son; Deputy Minister of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs Doan Mau Diep; Vice Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee Vu Hong Khanh; representatives of relevant departments of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

On the side of the Diplomatic Corps, there were: Mr. Jorge Rondon Uzcategui, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Bolivia, Venezuela, Acting Head of the Diplomatic Corps in Hanoi; Ambassadors, Charge d'Affaires and representatives of the Embassies of ASEAN countries in Hanoi.

On August 8, 1967, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations was officially established. Over the past 47 years, ASEAN has continuously expanded cooperation and strengthened connectivity. The development of ASEAN is the result of ASEAN's solidarity and continuous efforts in the process of building a Community based on three pillars: politics-security, economy and socio-culture.

On August 8, ASEAN member countries will simultaneously raise the ASEAN flag, clearly demonstrating their determination and awareness of building the ASEAN Community by 2015, promoting the role and image of ASEAN always upholding the basic principles, solidarity and unity, along with being proactive and creative in solving problems arising on the new development path, especially challenges to peace, stability, security and development in the region.

The ASEAN flag is a symbol of ASEAN solidarity, principles and efforts. It also represents a stable, peaceful, united and dynamic ASEAN community.
