July 14, 2014 14:45

(Baonghean) - After a day of scorching heat, the atmosphere suddenly became milder as the sun set behind the mountains. At this time, from Hoa Binh Town (Tuong Duong), we followed the Youth Union cadres up to Xoong Con village, Luu Kien commune to organize a drug prevention communication night...

As soon as she arrived at the village community cultural house, she saw quite a lot of people, the stage, mock-ups and hall were prepared. The media session began with a self-written and self-performed play by the members of the Xoong Con village youth union. The play described a mother frantically running around the village to find her son who had not returned home for 3 days. A woman in the same village informed her that she had just seen him sitting and smoking with friends by the stream. At first, she did not believe it, thinking that her friend had seen wrongly, that her son could not be so bad. Her friend took her to the stream to "catch him red-handed, see for herself". She completely collapsed and cried her eyes out, because her husband had also died from drug addiction and illness, and now it was her son's turn. When she got home, she stopped eating and lay in bed. At that moment, the commune police and village officials brought her son back and asked her to agree to take him to rehab. The son expressed his remorse and promised his mother that he would try to quit so that he could return home soon to continue his studies and help his mother with the farm work. The play ended, with thunderous applause...

The media session continued with questions revolving around the content of symptoms, harms, treatments and the community's attitude towards drug addicts. The host asked questions, dozens of arms raised to answer, the most enthusiastic of which were primary and secondary school students. If anyone answered correctly, they would receive a gift of a notebook and a pen. The villagers filled the hall, including the elderly, middle-aged people and teenagers. Each person was given a document with pictures and propaganda content about drug prevention. There were women carrying their grandchildren and small children on their backs trying to move forward to get a seat in front to see clearly. There were more than 20 questions in total, most of which were answered fluently by the villagers and students in Xoong Con. The media session ended after nearly 3 hours, and when leaving, the people of Xoong Con still felt regretful.

Talking to us, Mr. Le Hong Thai - Deputy Secretary of Tuong Duong District Youth Union said: "This is the first time we have coordinated to organize drug prevention propaganda in the form of dramatization. Initially, it shows that this form of propaganda is quite effective, attracting a large number of people to participate. In the near future, the District Youth Union will coordinate with volunteer student teams to continue to replicate this propaganda method to many villages in the area."
