Let children "grow" along the movement pyramid.
(Baonghean)- Recent research by the Institute of Medical and Social Sciences indicates that the rate of overweight and obese children in some Vietnamese cities is higher than the average for Asia and developing countries. Specifically, in Ho Chi Minh City, the rate of overweight and obese children is 9.6%, and even higher than 12% in the city center, while the global average is only about 6.9%. On the other hand, the report also shows that, nationwide, the rate of underweight malnutrition in children under 5 years old is 16% and the rate of stunting malnutrition is as high as 26.7%.

Overweight and obesity in children can stem from various causes, such as a lack of physical activity, excessive consumption of fatty foods, fast food, or sugary drinks. Furthermore, an unhealthy diet can lead to deficiencies in essential nutrients, one of the main reasons for increased rates of malnutrition in children. If these issues are not addressed early, they can lead to serious complications with unpredictable health consequences, such as cardiovascular diseases, increased risk of diabetes, or limitations in the development of vision, height, and brain function.
According to the National Institute of Nutrition of Vietnam, strictly adhering to a healthy diet combined with a reasonable physical activity regimen will help strengthen health and contribute to improving the quality of life. Understanding the importance of maintaining a healthy body, Vinamilk, with its mission to provide the community with the best and highest quality nutrition, has collaborated with the Center for Nutrition and Health - Institute of Medical and Social Research (ISMS) to develop the Movement Pyramid model to help children achieve holistic physical development.
The Activity Pyramid guides children on the appropriate level and frequency of physical activity for good health. Specifically, children can help their parents with chores, water plants, and go for walks daily. Activities like cycling, jumping rope, and martial arts should be practiced at least three times a week, for over 20 minutes each time. Popular sports like swimming, soccer, and badminton are recommended at least twice a week. Furthermore, prolonged television viewing and video game playing should be limited.
Besides following the Movement Pyramid correctly, parents can combine it with giving their children milk to supplement micronutrients, helping them develop to their full potential. Vinamilk's ADM+ Fortified UHT Milk product line contains all the essential nutrients such as Vitamin A for healthy eyesight, Vitamin D3 & Calcium for height development, and Magnesium to help convert nutrients into energy, allowing children to actively explore the world every day. Following the guidelines of the Movement Pyramid, researched and recommended by experts, combined with drinking Vinamilk ADM+ Fortified UHT Milk will help children have a healthy body and comprehensive development, contributing to a new generation of Vietnamese for a Vietnam that thrives.
