During the 5 days of the Giap Ngo Lunar New Year, despite the hot weather with an average outdoor temperature of 28-30 degrees Celsius, every day at the tomb of General Vo Nguyen Giap, there were still 6,000-7,000 people coming to burn incense and pay their respects. The peak day of the 4th day of the Lunar New Year was 10,000 people coming to pay their respects.

Since the day the people's General returned to his motherland Quang Binh to rest in eternal peace, the area of Vung Chua - Yen Island, Quang Dong commune, Quang Trach district (Quang Binh) has never been without people coming to offer flowers and incense to pay their respects to "one of the 10 legendary generals of the world".

The parking lot was packed with cars and motorbikes of visitors coming to burn incense and pay their respects to the General.

The wild land that accumulates spiritual energy south of Deo Ngang is always bustling during the first days of the new year.

Right from the intersection with National Highway 1A in Quang Dong commune, the road leading to the tomb of General Vo Nguyen Giap has thoughtful signs, one side of the road is bright with long rows of large yellow chrysanthemums that locals have prepared to sell to tourists who come to offer incense.

No "bargaining" or "ripping off" as is often seen in other festivals, the local elders and children here are sincere and honest, selling a portion of the offering for 50,000 VND, along with a thoughtful message "there will be border guards there arranging flowers and offering incense for you".

It is not difficult to recognize that in the line of cars going in and out of the General's tomb, there are many license plates from the far northern provinces such as Hai Phong, Hanoi, Son La... Even the familiar license plates of Da Nang, Dak Lak, Phu Yen, Ho Chi Minh City also bring groups of visitors from the far south to come here to burn incense and pay their respects.

Among the people lining up in an orderly manner from the foot of the mountain to the cemetery grounds are the elderly whose children brought them here to fulfill their wishes, along with children of all ages brought here by their parents to enjoy the spring.

The place where incense is burned, ceremonies are held and visitors are led from the tomb area down the mountainside. This place is now made of sturdy wood and ensures aesthetic harmony within the tomb area of General Vo Nguyen Giap.

Even more touching were the veterans, with their bare heads in the sun, patiently lining up to pay their respects to the General, their chests glittering with medals and awards.

Mrs. Hoang Thi Men, 70 years old, from Le Chan district (Hai Phong) excitedly said: "This year my children and grandchildren plan to celebrate my 70th birthday, but I don't want to organize a grand ceremony, so I asked my children and grandchildren to come here to burn incense for General Vo Nguyen Giap. That is the best and most meaningful way to celebrate my birthday."

As for the two sisters Tuyet Ngan and Tuyet Anh from Ky Son commune, Ky Anh district (Ha Tinh), their parents brought them here as a reward for their excellent results in the first semester: "Because our parents are busy working, this Tet, our parents brought us here to light incense for Uncle Giap. We are very touched, uncle!"

According to Lieutenant Colonel Le Xuan Hoa - Captain of the General Vo Nguyen Giap Tomb Protection Team, before Tet, the number of visitors coming to burn incense has increased dramatically, the unit has increased the number of officers and soldiers on duty 24/7, divided into 2 shifts.

“On average, 6,000-7,000 people come to burn incense and visit the General’s tomb every day, with up to 10,000 people on peak days like the 4th. We have increased our staff and soldiers to be on duty 24/7 to arrange each group of visitors, guide them and ensure safety,” said Lieutenant Colonel Hoa.

According to the forecast of the soldiers on duty here, the first days of the new year will have favorable weather, which is the occasion for spring travel, so the number of tourists coming here to burn incense and visit the General's tomb will increase.
