Continuing to deepen Vietnam-Cuba relations

On the night of March 26 (Vietnam time), at the Revolution Palace in the capital city of Havana, Cuba, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung had a working meeting with First Vice President of the Council of State and Council of Ministers of Cuba Miguel Diaz Canel Bermudez.

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung expressed his joy to return to visit the brotherly country of Cuba, to meet again with close Cuban comrades and to directly witness the great achievements in all aspects of the country and people of Cuba under the leadership of the Communist Party, State and Government of Cuba.

Comrade Miguel Diaz Canel Bermudez highly appreciated the official visit to Cuba by Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and the Vietnamese high-ranking delegation, considering this an important event in the relationship between the two countries, an opportunity for both sides to look back on the relationship and propose major cooperation directions for the coming time, especially in the context of the two countries preparing to celebrate the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations (December 2, 1960 - December 2, 2015).

The two leaders exchanged views on the situation of bilateral cooperation between Vietnam and Cuba and discussed a number of measures to further deepen the bilateral relationship in a practical and effective manner in the coming time, emphasizing the importance of strengthening consultation and close cooperation between the two Parties, Governments and peoples.

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung affirmed that Vietnam is ready to cooperate and support Cuba in areas where Vietnam has strengths and is suitable to its capabilities. Vietnam wishes to develop cooperation and joint ventures with Cuba in areas where both sides have potential for mutually beneficial cooperation. The strengthening of the special relationship between the two countries will help promote Cuba's relations with East Asia and Vietnam's relations with Latin America.

The two sides agreed to direct the two countries' ministries and sectors to promote initiatives and continuously develop cooperation contents, including effectively implementing the Political Consultation mechanism between the two Foreign Ministries, closely consulting on international and regional issues, and supporting each other at multilateral forums.

The two leaders focused on assessing economic cooperation, considering this an important content that the two governments should focus on promoting to develop commensurate with the political relationship and potential of the two sides. The two sides agreed that the current economic context of the two countries opens up new opportunities for the development of bilateral economic relations. The two sides expressed their determination to effectively implement the agreements reached at the 31st Session of the Vietnam - Cuba Intergovernmental Committee (Hanoi, September 2013).

Comrade Miguel Diaz Canel Bermudez expressed his hope that Vietnam would continue to support Cuba in agricultural development. Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung affirmed that Vietnam will continue to commit resources to implement the second phase of the corn and soybean development support project and the aquaculture development support project, while also implementing initial cooperation in coffee development.

Comrade Miguel Diaz Canel Bermudez welcomed and highly appreciated the visit of Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation to the Cubancan Rice Farm in Pinar del Rio province on March 27 to observe firsthand the progress and effectiveness of agricultural cooperation between the two countries.

The two leaders also discussed a number of measures to promote cooperation in areas such as healthcare and biotechnology, oil and gas, construction, tourism, electronics, telecommunications, etc. Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and Comrade Miguel Diaz Canel Bermudez were pleased and appreciated the signing of cooperation agreements and memorandums of understanding between the two sides in many fields, contributing to perfecting the legal framework for the comprehensive cooperation relationship between Vietnam and Cuba.

According to the program, on the morning of March 27 (Vietnam time), Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung will meet with the President of the Cuban National Assembly, visit the Cuban Institute for Friendship with Peoples (ICAP) and the Cuba - Vietnam Friendship Association, lay a wreath at the Ho Chi Minh Monument and visit the Vietnamese Embassy in Cuba.
