Among the 13 victims were two children aged 1 and 5, and a 1-year-old baby died with his parents.

According to RT, the Ukrainian army has approached the position of separatist forces in the city of Gorlovka in the Donetsk region.

Meanwhile, journalists here estimate the death toll could be up to 30 people.

Ukrainian troops entered the outskirts of Gorlovka late on July 24 and pushed separatist forces deep into populated areas.

Since 5am on July 27, the Ukrainian army has been firing heavy artillery at one of the main roads leading into the city.

“The Ukrainian army was targeting our headquarters but they missed and hit a populated area next door,” said a separatist soldier.

“One of the pieces of shrapnel hit the ceiling of a busy supermarket. Another piece hit the courtyard outside an apartment building, while another hit a hospital. We don’t know how many people died yet, but ambulances were all over the area,” said local resident Sergey.

“My house was destroyed and one of my relatives was stabbed in the leg by a sharp object while another suffered an eye injury,” said another resident, Vera.

“Food supplies in the city are becoming increasingly scarce. In recent days, black market traders have suddenly reappeared,” Egor Voronov wrote on his blog.

Officials of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic said the Ukrainian army is using Grad rockets, which have great destructive power but very low accuracy, to attack densely populated areas./.
