(Baonghean.vn) - On the afternoon of September 10, the Nghe An Department of Transport cut down a series of "tiger" trucks (Howo trucks) originating from China. These are vehicles with modified and enlarged bodies and often violate oversized and overloaded regulations.

Mr. Phan Huy Chuong - Deputy Chief Inspector of the Provincial Department of Transport directly supervised the cutting of the "tiger pounce" truck bodies at Vinh Mechanical Joint Stock Company. Five "tiger pounce" trucks including 37C-109.27, 37C-106.95, 37C-083.98, 37C-089.41 and 38C-020.82 were caught by the provincial traffic inspection force on August 28 at the Vinh City bypass. These are the vehicles whose owners had extended the truck bodies to transport construction materials.

“The inspection showed that the vehicle's registered load capacity was about 13 tons, but the owner had extended the vehicle's cargo bed and could carry 25-30 tons, exceeding the load capacity by 100-300%. For example, vehicle 37C-109.27 was found to be 268% overloaded when inspected,” said Mr. Chuong.

According to Mr. Chuong, since the beginning of August, the authorities have inspected and fined 84 vehicles for violating the oversized and overloaded regulations, of which 30% are "tiger" vehicles. In addition to administratively penalizing vehicle owners and drivers for violating the oversized and overloaded regulations, the Department of Transport inspectors require transport companies to trim the extended truck body according to regulations. Vehicle owners must bear the full cost of trimming a "tiger" vehicle, about 5 million VND.

According to data from the Nghe An Department of Transport, from April 1 to September 7, mobile weighing station No. 15 located in Dien An commune, Dien Chau district (Nghe An) inspected 4,292 vehicles, and issued administrative fines for 1,428 cases of oversized and overloaded vehicles. Of these, 368 vehicles exceeded the limit by 5%-30%, 127 cases exceeded by 30-50%, 824 vehicles exceeded by more than 50% and 76 cases of oversized violations.

“In the coming time, we will strengthen the inspection and handling of oversized and overloaded vehicles. For vehicles with signs of having their cargo boxes extended compared to the registration, we will definitely have to trim them according to regulations before they can continue to circulate on the road,” Mr. Chuong affirmed.
