Chinese newspapers reported on July 14 that the country has completed the installation of nine sets of maritime satellite phones and other communication equipment on islands in Vietnam's Hoang Sa archipelago.

China's Hainan Newspaper (hinews.cn) reported on July 14: The government of the so-called Sansha City, which China illegally established on Phu Lam Island in Vietnam's Hoang Sa archipelago, recently sent a group of experts to the islands of the Hoang Sa archipelago to install nine sets of maritime satellite phones and radio communication equipment.

The purpose given by Chinese authorities is to ensure three important types of information: telephone, radio information, and satellite telephone.

According to Hainan newspaper, these devices ensure that communication will not be interrupted in extreme weather conditions or in emergency situations. The installation of these devices has now been completed.

At the same time, on some Chinese islands, radio communication cabinets and UPS equipment have also been installed, which can supply electricity when the island loses power, and can ensure emergency information for a long time.

This can be considered China's new action in the Hoang Sa archipelago to strengthen its illegal sovereignty claim.

In another development, the Global Times reported on July 14 that on July 12, China held an official handover ceremony for the Type 056 missile frigate “Fushun” 591 to the North Sea Fleet, to strengthen its naval forces.
