Protest against extremists burning the Vietnamese flag in Phnom Penh

The demonstration and burning of the Vietnamese flag by Khmer Kampuchea Krom extremists in Phnom Penh on August 12, 2014 were outrageous acts that seriously offended the sentiments of the Vietnamese people.

On August 13, in response to some Khmer Kampuchea Krom extremists organizing a protest and burning the Vietnamese national flag in Phnom Penh, Spokesperson of the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs Le Hai Binh stated:

“Vietnam strongly protests against the illegal demonstration and burning of the Vietnamese national flag by Khmer Kampuchea Krom extremists in Phnom Penh on August 12, 2014. These are outrageous acts that deliberately and seriously offend the sentiments of the Vietnamese people and are inconsistent with the traditional good neighborly friendship between Vietnam and Cambodia. We request that Cambodia strictly prosecute them according to the law and take effective measures to prevent the recurrence of such a situation.”
