Nghe An: Caught a sunfish weighing more than 500 kg

(Baonghean.vn) - While fishing at sea, fishing boat NA 90390 TS captained by Nguyen Minh Vuong, in Quynh Long commune, Quynh Luu district (Nghe An), discovered a rare ocean sunfish weighing more than 500 kg caught in the net.

According to Mr. Nguyen Van Vuong, on August 21, while fishing at 107 degrees 01 minutes North latitude, 18 degrees 30 minutes East longitude in the waters of Ha Tinh province, Mr. Vuong's boat suddenly encountered a large strange fish caught in the net.

A sunfish weighing more than 500 kg was pulled ashore.

Immediately, Mr. Vuong and the fishermen on the boat gathered around to find a way to bring this strange fish to shore. After 2 hours, the whole boat was able to pull the big fish onto the boat. As soon as the giant fish was pulled onto the boat, it was identified as a rare ocean sunfish weighing more than 500 kg, 2.5 m long, 2.5 m wide.

By the morning of August 23, this ocean sunfish weighing more than 500 kg was brought by fishermen to Lach Quen port.

Upon returning from fishing, the boat owner contacted local authorities and the Vietnam Museum of Nature to donate the catch for research.

According to local crew members, this is the largest fish ever caught locally to be donated for research.

The ocean sunfish, scientifically known as Molamola, usually has a beautiful oval body. This fish species is currently in danger of extinction and needs to be protected and preserved.
