100,000 Russian soldiers marched into a huge military exercise
About 100,000 Russian soldiers today (September 19) began a huge military exercise in the area under the responsibility of the Eastern Military District, codenamed "Vostok-2014".
The Russian Defense Ministry's announcement said the exercise will last until September 25, taking place on land, sea and in the air, with the participation of 100,000 soldiers, 1,500 tanks, 120 aircraft, 70 warships and about 5,000 other military and special equipment.

Earlier sources said that the exercise, codenamed “Vostok-2014”, will take place in harsh conditions, focusing on strategic coordination and tactical cooperation between participating units. All branches of the Russian military will participate in the exercise and no detailed scenario will be announced in advance.
However, the Russian Defense Ministry's announcement said that the exercise will cover the protection of floating islands and coastal areas in Sakhalin, Kamchatka, Chukotka, and the south of Primorye. Tactical missiles and cruise missiles will also be mobilized for this huge exercise.
During the exercise, military units will be ordered to move to different combat locations, as well as mobilize military equipment from other areas to combat zones... with a distance of up to 4,000km.
“Vostok-2014” is said to be the largest and final in a series of large-scale and unannounced combat readiness exercises of the Russian Federation Armed Forces in 2014.
