China, Singapore conduct military exercises in the East Sea

A bilateral exercise involving Singaporean and Chinese warships took place in the South China Sea on September 3, according to Singapore's The Straits Times on September 5.

During the half-day exercise, the Singapore Navy's Formidable-class warship, RSS Intrepid, and the People's Liberation Army (PLA)'s Jiangkai II-class warship, Yulin, conducted drills and live-fire drills.

The exercise also included helicopter landing drills on two warships.

The event is part of the RSS Intrepid's visit to Zhanjiang Naval Base, Guangdong Province, China, from August 30 to September 3.

Also during the time the RSS Intrepid visited the Zhanjiang base, the commander of the Singapore Navy, Admiral Lai Chung Han, visited China from September 1 to 3.

Mr. Lai had meetings with the Political Commissar of the Chinese Navy, Admiral Liu Xiaojiang, and the commander of China's South China Sea Fleet, Rear Admiral Jiang Weilie, in Beijing and Zhanjiang.
