Searching for driver who abandoned car in pond, suffocating 4 people
Police are verifying and searching for two passenger buses that passed by the scene of a car sinking in a pond but did not rescue it, causing 4 people to suffocate.
On September 23, speaking with reporters, Mr. Phung Van On - Deputy Head of the Traffic Safety Committee of Long An province - said that he had sent a document requesting the Long An Provincial Police to request Moc Hoa district to verify information about the two vehicles that did not stop to rescue the car that crashed into the pond on National Highway 62. In this accident, in addition to driver Dang Anh Thi (30 years old), the remaining three people, Dr. Dang Chi Dong Giang (48 years old) and his wife and younger sister Dang Thi Tuyet Trinh (45 years old), all died of drowning.
According to Mr. On, the National Traffic Safety Committee had previously sent a telegram requesting Long An province to quickly investigate and clarify the cause of the accident. In response to information that witnesses said they tried to stop two passenger buses passing by the scene to ask for help for the victims but they ignored them, the National Traffic Safety Committee requested that it be verified to have a direction for handling according to the law.

In addition, the National Traffic Safety Committee also requested Long An province to increase equipment and rescue forces to promptly rescue road and inland waterway accidents in the area. The Department of Transport of Long An province was directed to coordinate with the Road Management Department 4 to inspect the system of markers, signs, and corridor protection fences on National Highway 62.
Before that, at around 4am on September 22, Dr. Giang and his wife (living in Ward 1, Kien Tuong Town, Long An) and their sister had some business in Ho Chi Minh City so they hired driver Thi to take them there. About 20km from home, the 4-seater car carrying the doctor's family suddenly lost control, crashed into a field and overturned in a canal along Highway 62, in Tan Lap Commune, Moc Hoa, Long An.
Mr. Truong Van Tuan, who lives across the pond, said he was busy in his house when he suddenly heard a terrible screech and then a loud sound as if something had fallen into the pond. He ran out to see and saw the car flipped over, almost completely submerged in water, with its headlights flashing. Unable to do anything by himself, he quickly took out his flashlight and went out into the middle of the road to find someone to help.
In about 15 minutes, the farmer waved his flashlight, stopped two small passenger vans and shouted “someone is in trouble, please help” but both just slowed down and drove straight. The driver of the third van that stopped used an iron bar to smash the car windows in the pond, and together with some locals, pulled the victims out but no one was still alive./.
