Reporting to the President, the leader of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Student Association said that the "5 Good Students" movement was officially launched in 2009. After 5 years of implementation, the movement has attracted hundreds of thousands of students nationwide to participate. In particular, in response to the requirements of the period of accelerating industrialization and modernization of the country, as an organization representing more than 2 million Vietnamese students at home and abroad, the National Congress of the Vietnam Student Association for the 2013-2018 term launched the "5 Good Students" movement among students nationwide with 5 criteria: "good morality, good study, good physical strength, good volunteering and good integration". In 2014, more than 547,000 students nationwide registered to participate in the movement. Of these, 17,651 students achieved school-level titles, 1,000 students achieved provincial and city-level titles, and 41 most outstanding students were selected to be awarded the title "5 Good Students" at the Central level.

Along with the "5 Good Students" campaign, the "January Star" Award 2014 was presented to 100 students with outstanding achievements, nominated from provinces and cities across the country, creating a strong driving force to promote the emulation and learning movement of students.

Sharing learning experiences and efforts to overcome difficulties to study well and train well... students recommended that the Party and State issue more policies to encourage the movement of studying and starting a business of students; remove obstacles in loan policies for poor students, reduce tuition fees for students studying hazardous professions; have policies to support students after graduation to have opportunities to find jobs...

Talking with outstanding students, President Truong Tan Sang emphasized that students are an elite part of the youth. Throughout history, youth have always been the backbone of the country. Especially in the struggle for national liberation and national construction in recent decades, Vietnamese students and youth have made outstanding contributions. Nowadays, the emulation movements "Study and practice for tomorrow's career", "Competition to study well, practice well", "5 good students" ... have received the participation of a large number of students.

Appreciating the efforts of outstanding students, the President said that the organization of honoring the "5 Good Students" on the occasion of the anniversary of the Traditional Student Day is a very meaningful activity, adding to the glorious tradition of students, encouraging the emulation movement among students nationwide. The President believes that the outstanding students being honored are the country's talents who need to continue to train and strive to contribute to the cause of building the country to stand shoulder to shoulder with the world powers as Uncle Ho always wished.

Welcoming the Vietnam Student Association for launching the "5 Good Students" movement, the President affirmed that this activity creates a good environment for students to strive and practice, thereby perfecting themselves. The Vietnam Student Association needs to replicate more advanced models so that there will be more students with solid knowledge and good qualities to become high-quality human resources contributing to the cause of industrialization and modernization of the country.

Taking note of students' opinions, the President suggested that the Vietnam Student Association should collect students' recommendations, coordinate with ministries and branches to remove obstacles, and have appropriate mechanisms to encourage good study and training movements among students.
