Lang Khe in cassava harvest season
(Baonghean.vn) - From the end of November to February of the following year is the time when people in some communes of the mountainous district of Con Cuong such as Chi Khe, Lang Khe, Chau Khe... enter the cassava harvest season. During these days, the villagers, some carrying baskets, some carrying shovels, go up the mountains and to the fields to urgently harvest cassava.
Cassava is a familiar crop for local people, especially for Thai and Khmu people. However, in recent years, people have switched to growing high-yield cassava or raw cassava to import to processing factories.
In the poor mountainous commune of Lang Khe, there are many ethnic minorities living, the area is large, but mainly hills and mountains, it is difficult to develop some other crop varieties, so developing cassava varieties is the best solution for the people here. In recent years, thanks to stable export sources, the cassava area has been continuously increased rapidly.
This year, the price of cassava fluctuates between 1,000 and 1,200 VND/kg. Compared to previous years, the price of cassava remains unchanged. The income from cassava during this time helps the villagers have a more prosperous traditional Tet.
