(Baonghean.vn) - This morning (December 1) in Hanoi, the Vietnam Association of Literature and Arts of Ethnic Minorities held the opening ceremony of the 5th National Congress of Delegates for the 2014-2019 term.
Attending the Congress were representatives of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Central Propaganda Department, representatives of a number of ministries and central agencies, along with 519 official delegates representing 943 members of the Vietnam Association of Literature and Arts of Ethnic Minorities. Nghe An delegation had 10 delegates attending.

As of May 2014, the Vietnam Association of Literature and Arts of Ethnic Minorities has 943 members with 32 grassroots units, including 4 associations and 28 branches in 28 provinces and cities; the number of members has developed and is present in 42 provinces and cities. Among the 519 official delegates, there are 54 delegates who are meritorious artists and people's artists, many famous writers, poets, musicians, painters, directors, photographers, and artists with names in the Vietnamese literature and arts community; more than 70% of the delegates are party members; working in many fields, creating professional and non-professional literature and arts in all regions, and ethnic minorities of the country.
The goal of the 5th Congress is to concentrate all resources on building an advanced Vietnamese literature and art with strong national identity, building the personality of the Vietnamese people to meet the increasingly high and diverse needs for truth, goodness, and beauty of all classes of people, effectively serving the cause of industrialization and modernization of the country for the goal of "Rich people, strong country, fair, democratic, and civilized society". Building and developing a team of Vietnamese artists in a comprehensive manner in terms of quantity, quality, and type structure, with rich and diverse creative capacity, solidarity, and cohesion for development in the community of ethnic groups in our country.

Due to the increasingly high and diverse tasks, the Congress unanimously elected a new executive committee of 22 people instead of 18 people like the previous term. Delegate Vi Hoi - Nghe An Branch, head of the Nghe An delegation was nominated in the list of 30 people to vote for 21 people. This afternoon, the Congress continued working and will announce the election results on December 2.
