Tan Ky Education Sector: Effectiveness from a project
(Baonghean) - Although the socio-economic situation still has many difficulties, in recent years, the quality of education, especially the quality of key schools in Tan Ky district, has made remarkable progress, ranking among the top in the province. That is the positive effect from the implementation of the project "improving the quality of key schools in the period 2012 - 2017".
We came to Nguyen Trai Secondary School, a specialized school of Tan Ky district, on the occasion of teachers and students having just finished the first semester of the 2014-2015 school year with positive results. Mr. Tran Xuyen - Principal of the school said: "All of us teachers and students are always proud of the school's long tradition. Especially, in terms of key quality, the school is always at the forefront, worthy of being a key school of the district". As if to prove what he had just said, he cited the results of the school in the 2013-2014 school year with 39% of students classified as excellent, 52.5% as good, and only 8.5% as average. Regarding the quality of key education, every year the school has nearly 200 students achieving the title of excellent students at the district level, 15-20 students achieving the title of excellent students at the provincial level, bringing the Education sector of Tan Ky district from 12th to 3rd in the province in terms of the percentage of excellent students.

Thanks to the improvement of education quality, in recent years, Nguyen Trai Secondary School has had many outstanding students studying at high-quality schools such as Nguyen Vo Huy studying at Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted, who won the first prize in English in the province and is currently studying in grade 11 specializing in English; Nguyen Tuan Anh won the third prize in Math at the provincial level and is studying in grade 12 specializing in Math. In grade 11, he won the third prize in Math at the national level; Le Thuy Dung, the second prize in Math at the provincial level and is now studying in grade 10 specializing in Math; Le Huu Hai, the third prize in Math at the provincial level in the 2013-2014 school year, was awarded the third prize by the Department of Science and Technology for his scientific research product and is currently the class monitor of grade 10A1 specializing in Math... To improve the quality of education, the school focuses on arranging and selecting a team of teachers to participate in training excellent students. Early detection, training and creating resources and orientation for students with talent and outstanding achievements in subjects. At the same time, strengthen coordination between schools and parents to promptly encourage children to excel in their studies.
As for Nghia Dong Secondary School, with a 54-year tradition, the school is being proposed by the State to award the First Class Labor Medal. In recent school years, the school has had over 100 students achieving the title of excellent students at the district level, over 10 students achieving the title of excellent students at the provincial level. In the 2013-2014 school year alone, 13 students achieved the title of excellent students at the provincial level. Without the advantage of choosing teachers and student input like the key schools of the district, Nghia Dong Secondary School has its own way to improve the quality of education, especially focusing on developing key quality. That is to maximize the experience, enthusiasm and dynamism of the teaching staff, promote emulation and reward work, and create motivation for teachers to focus on discovering and nurturing excellent students. At the same time, constantly encourage and motivate students, creating a healthy competitive atmosphere so that they strive to achieve high results in their studies and boldly participate in excellent student competitions at all levels.
Not only in the district center or areas with favorable socio-economic conditions, but also in remote communes such as Phu Son, Nghia Hanh, Nghia Thai, there have been important changes in improving the quality of key points. This is the important factor that brought Tan Ky to the 4th position in education quality in the 2013-2014 school year, just behind Vinh City, Cua Lo Town and Do Luong District.
So what is the secret to making the Tan Ky district education sector make a breakthrough in improving the quality of key points, becoming the dream of mountainous districts - highlands? Talking to us, Ms. Thai Thi Hong - Deputy Head of the district's Education and Training Department said: "Since the beginning of 2012, the district People's Committee has implemented the Project "Improving the quality of key points of general schools in the period 2012-2017" with reasonable solutions and steps, thereby showing a clear increase in efficiency". Based on the advantages and difficulties of the locality, the project sets a target of striving for 60% of students participating in the competition to be excellent students at the district level and 50% or more to be excellent students at the provincial level, the rate of students passing the entrance exams to universities every year is from 50% or more.
The basic solution is to enhance the professional activities of the teaching staff, innovate management work, upgrade the infrastructure system, do a good job of socialization and promote emulation and rewards. In particular, innovating teaching methods and building high-quality key schools are considered important steps, deciding the success or failure of the project. The project also assigns specific tasks to the education sector and related departments, sectors, localities and schools to implement seriously with a high sense of responsibility.
Up to now, the project has only been half-way through its implementation, but its effectiveness has been confirmed through the figures on the percentage of excellent students at all levels and students passing the university entrance exams. In the 2012-2013 school year, the percentage of excellent students passing the provincial exam (junior high school) was 52.7% of the students taking the exam, in the 2013-2014 school year this number increased to 73.5%. Similarly, in the provincial English Olympic exam, it increased from 46.7% to 73.3%. Along with that, the number of graduates passing the entrance exams to Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted and Vinh University for the Gifted has also increased significantly. At the high school level, the number of excellent students at the provincial level increased from 50 students (2012-2013 school year) to 100 students (2013-2014 school year). In 2014, the whole district had more than 850 students passing the entrance exams to universities and colleges, a quite impressive number for a mountainous district.
From the results of reviewing the implementation of the project, the Education Department of Tan Ky district has drawn useful lessons to continue promoting in the next stage. That is, by all means, promote the creativity, enthusiasm and passion of teachers and students, taking the quality of students as a measure of effectiveness in conjunction with emulation and reward work. Do a good job of coordinating with families, mobilizing parents to invest time, and encouraging students to study. Build and promote the role of key schools and high-quality schools at all levels, actively detect and promptly nurture students with talent and learning spirit. Timely reward and honor units and individuals for their achievements to motivate and encourage teachers and students to excel in teaching and learning.
