The Italian branch of Universal Pictures, which produced Unbroken, said: “Pope Francis was unable to make time to attend the screening, which was for priests and nuns, but he learned the extraordinary life story of war hero Louis Zamperini, the film’s protagonist.”
For her part, Jolie said emotionally that she felt “honored to be invited to the Vatican with my film. Zamperini's story is a great example of strength and tolerance.”
The movie Unbroken is based on the life story of Louis Zamperini, a pilot in World War II. Zamperini's plane crashed in the Pacific Ocean and he drifted at sea for 47 days before being captured by the Japanese army and becoming a prisoner of war. Unbroken is currently a hit movie in the North American market.
