The world's most popular film of 2014 received 7 Golden Raspberry nominations

Director Michael Bay's blockbuster "Transformers: Age of Extinction" dominates the nominations for the worst films of the year.

On January 13, the official nomination list for the 35th Golden Raspberry Awards was announced. The movie Transformers: Age of Extinction was nominated in 7 categories including "Worst Picture", "Worst Sequel", "Worst Screenplay", "Worst Director", "Worst Supporting Actor", "Worst Supporting Actress" and "Worst Screen Interaction".

This is not surprising to movie lovers because the previous parts of the Transformers series, Revenge of the Fallen and Dark of the Moon, also received many Golden Raspberry nominations. Last year, Transformers: Age of Extinction earned more than one billion USD in global revenue, of which the Chinese market contributed one-third of the total revenue and was the most successful Hollywood blockbuster. The film was also protested by many viewers because it inserted many unreasonable advertisements for Chinese commercial products.

The “Worst Picture” category saw competition between Transformers: Age of Extinction and four films: Saving Christmas, Left Behind, The Legend of Hercules and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Along with director Michael Bay, the “Worst Director” category includes filmmakers Darren Doane of Saving Christmas, Renny Harlin of The Legend of Hercules, Jonathan Liebesman of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Seth MacFarlane of the Western comedy A Million Ways to Die in the West.

Nicolas Cage is the standout in the “Worst Actor” category, along with Kirk Cameron for Saving Christmas, Kellan Lutz for The Legend of Hercules, Seth MacFarlane for A Million Ways to Die in the West, and Adam Sandler for Blended. In the “Worst Actress” category, Drew Barrymore for Blended, Cameron Diaz for The Other Woman and Sex Tape, Melissa McCarthy for Tammy, and Gaia Weiss for The Legend of Hercules are also in contention.

Cameron Diaz is a strong contender in both worst female acting categories.

As predicted from the list of nominees a week ago, star Cameron Diaz not only received nominations for “Worst Actress” for the two films The Other Woman and Sex Tape, but her supporting role in the film Annie was also nominated for “Worst Supporting Actress”.

Established in 1981, the Razzie Awards are an award for the worst films of the year. According to The Hollywood Reporter, this award is also a way for the public to criticize filmmakers, hoping that they learn from their mistakes and make better works in the future. The Razzie Awards will have a ceremony to announce the results on February 21, one day before the Oscars. The recipients will receive a raspberry model mounted on gold-painted plastic, worth $5 (more than 100,000 VND).
