Vietnamese Government supports Vietnam-Thailand Defense Cooperation

On January 14, at the Government Headquarters, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung received General Prawit Wongsuwon, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense of Thailand, who is on a working visit to Vietnam.

At the reception, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung expressed his delight at the positive developments in the friendly neighborly relations and strategic partnership between Vietnam and Thailand in various fields in recent times, including the recent signing of an action program by the two sides to implement the bilateral strategic partnership.

The Prime Minister highly appreciated and believed that the results of the visit will actively contribute to deepening the cooperative relationship between the two countries, making it more practical and effective.

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung affirmed that Vietnam wants Thailand to be stable and develop strongly, and values ​​Thailand's role in the region and the world. He hopes to work with Thailand to develop the Vietnam-Thailand strategic partnership for the common development of both countries, for the prosperity and strength of ASEAN, contributing to peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world.

Appreciating the results of the talks between General and Minister of National Defense Prawit Wongsuwon and Minister of National Defense Phung Quang Thanh, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung emphasized that the Vietnamese Government supports cooperation activities between the two countries' Defense Ministries; at the same time, he suggested that the two sides soon implement the cooperation agreements reached. Continue to cooperate in joint patrols at sea and establish a working group to handle issues related to fishing activities of fishermen of the two countries in the spirit of friendship and humanity.

In other areas, the Prime Minister suggested that Thailand work together with Vietnam and other ASEAN members to promote the implementation of the Association's goals and support each other at regional and international forums. The Prime Minister also suggested that the two sides strongly promote cooperation in trade, investment, tourism, production and consumption of agricultural products, and transport connectivity between the two countries.

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung affirmed that the Vietnamese Government always welcomes, welcomes and creates favorable conditions for Thai investors to cooperate and do business effectively, long-term and successfully in Vietnam. He also suggested that the two sides negotiate and soon sign a Memorandum of Understanding on labor cooperation, hoping that Thailand will continue to support and assist the Vietnamese community working and living in this country.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense of Thailand Prawit Wongsuwon said that Vietnam and Thailand are two neighboring countries with friendly and cooperative relations that are increasingly close. The two sides have upgraded their relationship to a strategic partnership and both countries are ASEAN members. This is a favorable condition and premise for the two sides to strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation in all fields, bringing practical benefits to the people of both countries.

Agreeing with the proposals of Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, Mr. Prawit Wongsuwon said that during this visit, the two sides discussed many contents on cooperation in the field of defense and also discussed many areas of bilateral cooperation.

Expressed Thailand's desire to strongly promote economic, trade and investment cooperation with Vietnam, and to closely cooperate with Vietnam in the fields of agriculture, transport connectivity and other fields.

Mr. Prawit Wongsuwon also agreed that Thailand and Vietnam support each other, have a common voice in regional and international forums, and together contribute to building a strong and prosperous ASEAN, making positive contributions to peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world.
