Opening of the 10th ASEAN Skills Competition in Vietnam
On the evening of October 23, the opening ceremony of the 10th ASEAN Skills Competition 2014 with the theme “Skills - Our intrinsic values” was solemnly held at the National Convention Center, My Dinh, Hanoi.

Speaking at the ceremony, Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan emphasized: “Enhancing vocational training to improve employability and enhance the skills of the workforce” is the goal affirmed in the ASEAN Leaders' Statement on Human Resources and Skills Development for Economic Recovery and Sustainable Growth adopted at the 17th ASEAN Summit in Hanoi, Vietnam.
Currently, ASEAN member countries have been facing enormous challenges in human resources to maintain, restore and develop the economy. Therefore, improving the vocational skills of workers to create jobs and increase labor productivity is an extremely important content, creating a driving force for rapid and sustainable development of ASEAN in general and of each ASEAN member country in particular.
Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan stated that the ASEAN Skills Competition is held every two years and is hosted by ASEAN member countries in rotation. This is a playground for young workers from ASEAN member countries to demonstrate their talents in terms of vocational skills and passion for career creativity.
The results achieved at the ASEAN Skills Competitions have shown the great efforts of ASEAN member countries to gradually narrow the gap in vocational skills, towards mutual recognition of vocational skills to create a common framework of vocational skills standards of ASEAN; at the same time, it also enhances the competitiveness of the workforce, creating a driving force for socio-economic development.

The Vice Chairman of the National Assembly expressed that the 10th ASEAN Skills Competition in 2014 hosted by Vietnam is a good opportunity to further strengthen cooperation in developing high-quality human resources in the ASEAN region. With the efforts of Vietnam and the strong commitment of participating countries, the competition will be successful in all aspects, leaving many beautiful memories for ASEAN and international friends.
The Vice Chairman of the National Assembly hopes that through the exam, it will contribute to promoting the development of vocational skills standards in the ASEAN bloc to get closer to the world levels; and further enhance the ability of coordination and collaboration between ASEAN member countries in assessing vocational skills levels - an extremely important activity when ASEAN officially becomes a Community on December 31, 2015.
In order to build an ASEAN Community towards sustainable development, with three pillars of politics-security, economy and culture-society, the Vice Chairman of the National Assembly said that the theme of the competition "Vocational skills - Our true values" is very meaningful.
With that spirit, each candidate needs to make an effort and try their best to demonstrate their own value, creativity, and passion for the professional field they have chosen to clearly demonstrate the viewpoint of the Exam: "Honesty - Transparency - Fairness - Cooperation - Creativity."
The Vice Chairman of the National Assembly believes that this ASEAN Skills Competition will contribute to further strengthening the connections and effective cooperation in the region towards a united, united and sustainably developing ASEAN Community.

Representatives of the candidates and experts from 10 ASEAN countries took an oath, affirming that they will do their best to ensure “Honesty, transparency, fairness, cooperation and creativity” so that the exam takes place in fairness, respect and friendship.
Interspersed with the program are music and dance performances with orchestras and traditional costumes that demonstrate the national cultural characteristics, creating a good impression of the country and people of Vietnam for international friends.
The 10th ASEAN Skills Competition attracted 293 contestants from 10 ASEAN member countries with 25 organized occupations (23 official occupations and 2 demonstration occupations); nearly 700 international guests, technical experts, teachers, and observers came to visit and learn.
The organization of the 10th ASEAN Skills Competition in 2014 in Vietnam aims to promote learning, vocational training, and vocational skills training for young people; develop national vocational skills standards of each member country in particular and the region in general, towards achieving the skill standards of advanced countries in the world.
The message of the competition contributes to conveying the message from the organizers to the world community that: the young and highly skilled workforce of ASEAN is being trained, practiced and improved to meet the job requirements, contributing to building a better, more prosperous world. In that way, the skills demonstrated in this competition are the expression of one of the true values that the candidates are carrying within themselves.
The closing ceremony of the ASEAN Skills Competition will be held on the evening of October 28.
