(Baonghean) - Being able to express their soaring dreams, satisfy their passion for creativity, and apply knowledge from books to life is the greatest thing for students participating in the "Creative Youth, Adolescents, and Children 2014" contest. That is also the premise for us to hope for future "scientists" who will contribute many works that are applicable and practical in life.

Le Huu Khanh - a 12th grade student of C1, Tan Ky High School has a dream of becoming a tour guide by applying information technology, so that with just one click, tourists from all over the country can know about famous tourist attractions in Nghe An. Not only that, but also guide people to the right place in the fastest time possible.

The idea was implemented in 8 months and Khanh's "Smart Tour Guide" software received high praise from the Organizing Committee of the "Youth, Teenager and Children's Creativity 2014" contest. This is also one of the effective projects that can be applied immediately in life and is very useful for travel companies.

As for Le Huu Khanh himself, since the day he started implementing the project, he uploaded the software to the forum of mobile phone users for each completed stage and every time he received feedback from everyone. Through that, from just a few familiar tourist destinations at first such as President Ho Chi Minh Relic Site, Cua Lo, Ho Chi Minh Square, he has developed and added many new destinations such as Sao Va Waterfall (Que Phong), Pu Mat National Park (Con Cuong, Tuong Duong)...

The implementation process was also the days when my teacher and I explored, experienced, and convinced everyone to apply the project. Although Informatics is not a major subject and Tan Ky is not a software center or a place where technology develops, Khanh has overcome all obstacles and succeeded. Currently, everyone can download this software completely free of charge to their phones to use as a travel "handbook". Khanh also hopes that after the project is announced, travel companies can update the software to promote and develop it more widely.

The 2013-2014 Youth and Children's Creativity Contest is a forum to express the dreams and ambitions of students and children in the whole province. The topics that students develop are closely related to real life and have high practical value. These include the project "Automatic toilet flushing device without electricity" by Dinh Quoc Quan, Nguyen Huu Nghia, Nguyen Thi Hong Hai (Ben Thuy Secondary School, Vinh City); "Anti-dust blackboard eraser" by Le Huu Hai - Dang Vu Minh (Nguyen Trai Tan Ky Secondary School), "Well water treatment process" by student Nguyen Thi Quynh Nhu (class 9C, Kim Lien Secondary School, Nam Dan)...

This year, Phan Boi Chau High School has 6/17 projects winning prizes, including 1 First Prize, 2 Second Prizes, 2 Third Prizes and 1 Encouragement Prize. That clearly shows the dynamism, creativity and passion for science and technology creation of students of specialized schools. Their works are also very diverse. Student Bui Anh Quan is very practical when creating a recycling machine to create a new source of environmentally friendly materials.

The interesting thing here is that the author came up with the idea of using bagasse mixed with sawdust and other compounds to make plywood to replace natural wood sources to reduce indiscriminate logging and at the same time process the surplus products of sugar factories. As for Duong Van Ngoc, he won first prize with his work “Rice rake and vacuum cleaner”.

With a passion for scientific creation, Ngoc struggled to make a “rice raking and cleaning machine” to help her mother. Because, as she confided: “Many times at noon, I saw my mother still having to work, raking and winnowing rice so hard. I wanted a “2 in 1” machine to help with some of the work for my mother and the rice farmers in my hometown”. This work, in addition to winning First Prize in this competition, also “won” Third Prize at the National Science and Technology Innovation Competition and helped her get a place straight into university.

As the person who monitors and directly guides students in carrying out their projects, teacher Mai Van Quyen, a teacher of Science and Technology at Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted, shared: “The students are very passionate about research and every year, to select the best works to compete at the provincial and other levels, we have to work very hard because there are more than 100 ideas registered for projects. Creating an introduction to science for students is to help them have the opportunity to express their passion and interests. Secondly, this is an opportunity for them to review the knowledge they have learned, to apply what they have learned to reality…”.

Through the discussion, Mr. Hoang Xuan Truong, Permanent Vice President of the Provincial Union of Science and Technology Associations affirmed: “In 10 years of organizing the contest, we have received hundreds of entries. This shows the huge potential of students at all levels in the province. This activity has aroused the potential and promoted the creative thinking of youth, teenagers and children in the whole province. Many projects can be applied to life.

From this competition, many projects were selected to compete at national and international levels and were highly recognized. For example, the projects “Trash sweeper”, “DT pesticide treatment by advanced oxidation method” by students of Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted won the Third Prize and the Encouragement Prize at the International Science and Technology Competition. The project “Blocking harmful websites” attracted the attention of many foreign organizations and was awarded a certificate by the US Technical Center. The two projects that won the First and Second Prizes in this year’s competition were also awarded at the National Science and Technology Innovation Competition held in 2014 in Vinh Phuc province…”.

The success of the competition shows the trend of innovation in teaching and learning methods of the current education sector, especially combining "learning with practice". On that basis, encourage and prioritize students to be more passionate about scientific research. And there are more and more projects applied in life, helping students have more motivation to nurture their passion and contribute their intelligence to the development of their homeland and country.
