This year's Australian Open women's singles final between the two top seeds was only tense in the second set.

Maria Sharapova had a poor start to the final at Rod Laver Arena, double faulting and losing an early break in her first serve game. In the sixth game, with the score at 30-30, a heavy rain began to fall, causing the match to be suspended for more than 10 minutes.

When returning, the match suddenly became dramatic when Serena Williams won another break in the 7th game, but in the next game, the American player made an unfortunate double fault, allowing Masha to regain a break and maintain hope of equalizing the score.

However, in the 9th game, when the “Russian Doll” served, she once again disappointed her fans with consecutive errors and let her opponent have an important break. The first set ended with a well-deserved victory for the Williams sister.

In the second set, the match was much more balanced and tense when after 12 main games, neither player could break and the set had to go into a tie-break. In this nerve-wracking match, the No. 1 seed still showed more courage and luck when she got 2 mini-breaks compared to 1 from Sharapova to win 7-5.

In the end, Serena won 2-0 with the scores of 6-3, 7-6 (7-5) to officially be crowned champion of the 2015 Australian Open. This was the 6th time that the Williams sister had the honor of lifting the trophy at the first Grand Slam tournament of the year. Previously, Serena also won the Australian Open in 2003, 2005, 2007, 2009 and 2010.
