Nearly 2,000 people in Syria were executed by IS within six months.

(Baonghean.vn) - On December 28, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (OSDH) reported that since the declaration of the "Caliphate" state in June, nearly 2,000 people in Syria have been killed by the Islamic State (IS). OSDH is known to be the non-governmental organization with the largest information network in Syria.

According to documents released by the OSDH on Sunday, from the time ISIS declared the establishment of its "Caliphate" state on June 28 until December 27, 1,878 Syrians were killed by ISIS jihadists. Among the dead were 1,175 civilians. Most reprehensible is the fact that ISIS also executed four children and eight women. The remaining victims were mostly members of the Sunni Charita sect who had risen up against ISIS in eastern Syria.

The OSDH reported that executions frequently occurred in northeastern Syrian provinces such as Dier Ezzor (east), Hasakah (northeast), Raqa, and Aleppo (north). Victims were often shot, beheaded, or stoned to death. Furthermore, this extremist terrorist group executed 502 captured government soldiers, 120 members of its own organization who attempted to defect, 80 Syrian rebels, and numerous members of Al-Nusra, an al-Qaeda affiliate in Syria.

The OSDH estimates that the actual death toll is higher than the reported figure of 1878. This is because hundreds of people are still being held hostage by IS, and their fate remains unknown. IS jihadists often film and disseminate bloody execution videos on websites, not only to terrorize the public and groups intending to resist, but also to recruit more extremists into their ranks.
