Two vehicles transporting illegally harvested timber were seized.
(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of February 15th, Lieutenant Colonel Chu Minh Tien – Deputy Head of the Environmental Police Department (Nghe An Provincial Police) informed reporters from Nghe An Newspaper that: At 2:00 AM on February 14th (26th day of the 12th lunar month), in Tam Hop commune (Tuong Duong district), based on information provided by the public, Team 3 of the Environmental Police Department inspected a car with license plate 29L 6335 driven by Ha Huy Thuc (born in 1982), residing in Nghia Hoan (Tan Ky district).

The truck was carrying 22 planks of mahogany wood, weighing nearly 6 cubic meters, without proper documentation. The task force dispatched two environmental police officers to bring the vehicle to the unit's headquarters for further investigation. Upon reaching National Highway 7, in the Tam Thai commune (Tuong Duong district), under the cover of darkness, the driver stopped the vehicle, turned off the engine, removed the keys, and fled, abandoning the truck and its cargo.

By 6:00 AM on February 14th, based on information from the public, the task force persuaded the driver to return and bring the vehicle to the police station for questioning. Also in Tam Hop commune, the remaining officers apprehended a truck with license plate 37N 9007 driven by Lo Van Bay (1985) from Thach Giam commune (Tuong Duong district), transporting 15 planks of yellow heartwood with a volume of 2.6 m³. The task force brought the vehicle and the goods to the Tuong Duong Forest Protection Department to draw up a report for handover and processing. The remaining officers pursued an unidentified vehicle, a 12-seater GAZ 52 (commonly used as a military ambulance), loaded with wood, heading towards the border in Tam Hop commune. Taking advantage of the darkness, rain, and limited personnel, the vehicle escaped. Authorities are continuing to deploy search efforts for this vehicle.

Lieutenant Colonel Chu Minh Tien stated that, taking advantage of the bad weather and the period leading up to Tet (Lunar New Year), within a distance of only 3-4 clock cycles on February 14th, three vehicles carrying illegally logged timber were operating in Tam Hop commune.
