Previously, after being arrested, the family also presented Hoa's mental health records to the police. The investigation agency also determined that the perpetrator had a mental illness.
As reported, at around 8am on December 8, a fire broke out at the Vinh station waiting room. The cause was a young man carrying a can of gasoline and riding a motorbike into the Vinh station waiting room, pouring it on fire.
The fire was extinguished after about 10 minutes. An hour later, the police arrested Nguyen Ba Hoa (31 years old, residing in block 5, Quan Bau ward) while he was standing near the gate of his house.
According to the investigation agency, Nguyen Ba Hoa stated that at 7:00 a.m. on December 8, he was working as a motorbike taxi driver at Vinh station gate when he met a female railway employee. Hoa took the can of gasoline back to the station, rushed straight into the waiting room where Ms. Hue worked, poured it on the floor, set it on fire, then got on his motorbike and fled home.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Mai Chien Thang, the fire at Vinh station waiting room caused total damage of 74 million VND including equipment such as electric fans, air conditioners, telephones, and desks.
