Good practices at Quy Hop 1 High School
(Baonghean.vn) - After more than two weeks since its launch, the online competition "Understanding Maritime Sovereignty" on the Nghe An Provincial Electronic Information Portal at http://chuquyenbiendao2014.nghean.gov.vn has attracted a large number of participants. According to the organizing committee, the competition has attracted people from all walks of life in the province and across the country, with students being particularly prominent. Quy Hop 1 High School is one of the high schools with a large number of participating students and achieved commendable results.
Following the results announced weekly by the organizing committee, both first prizes in the first week's competition went to students from Quy Hop 1 High School, Quy Hop town, Quy Hop district. Furthermore, the school was one of the schools with a large number of participating students, which surprised us, considering it's a mountainous school.

Sharing their experience in implementing the competition, Mr. Cao Thanh Luu - Principal and Ms. Phan Thi Lien - Vice Principal of the school, said: The Party Committee and the school's Board of Directors determined that this was not simply a competition but a political activity, an opportunity for students to learn about the country's seas and islands. Therefore, when the school received the directive from the Provincial People's Committee, the District People's Committee, and the Department of Education and Training regarding the implementation of the online "Understanding the Sovereignty of the Seas and Islands" competition on the Provincial Information Portal, the school's Party branch directed the professional departments and organizations to develop a specific plan, assigning a Vice Principal to be in charge. Participation in the competition was disseminated and thoroughly explained to each staff member, teacher, and student by the Party branches, professional departments, and the Youth Union. At the same time, the school also posted the competition rules on the school's bulletin board for all teachers and students to follow.
Ms. Phan Thi Lien further added: The school received official directives from higher authorities to participate in the competition close to the date the Provincial People's Committee organized the launching ceremony of the 2014 competition on understanding maritime sovereignty at the Provincial Labor Culture House. However, the school quickly completed the plan and promptly launched the campaign, encouraging teachers and students to participate right from the first flag-raising ceremony of the week on September 15th, so that they could be familiar with the competition from the very first day. Weekly, the Party branch, professional teams, and youth union compile statistics on the number of participants to continue mobilizing support for the competition.
For a school in a mountainous district, infrastructure is still lacking, and a significant number of students still lack computers and internet access. Students with computers at home are encouraged by teachers to actively participate in the competition after completing their homework and during their free time. For those without personal computers, the school facilitates participation by allowing them to take the test on computers in the computer lab. With the goal of ensuring all students in the school can participate, teachers have written instructions on how to take the test on the blackboard in the school's computer lab. Integrated into computer class, teachers have guided students on how to complete the test and how to use the mouse to answer the 20 questions as quickly as possible. Thanks to this, to date, approximately 1,100 students from 30 classes in the school have participated in the competition.

Nguyen Van Ha, a student in class 11A1 and the winner of the second week's competition, said he also had to dedicate time to memorizing the questions and answers. Without a personal computer, he had to go to an internet cafe to take the test online. Having taken the test many times, he encountered most of the questions. For difficult questions, if he answered incorrectly, he would mark them, find the correct answers, and he basically memorized most of the questions and answers… Not only Dung and Ha, but many other students from the school, such as Tu, Duong, Tram, and Hang, also achieved high results in the past two weeks of the competition.
It is gratifying that Dung, Ha, and many other students participating in the competition are all excellent students of the school. They said that participating in the competition gave them the opportunity to access more knowledge about geography, history, the role and position of Vietnam's seas, and the sovereignty of our beloved homeland's seas and islands. Most importantly, they have learned many new things such as: the years when the island districts were established, the content of the 1982 Vietnamese Law of the Sea, the content of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea (DOC), and especially the legal basis affirming that the Truong Sa and Hoang Sa archipelagos belong to Vietnam… Through this, it helps them cultivate patriotism, national pride, love for the seas and islands, and awareness of protecting the sacred sovereignty of the Fatherland's seas and islands.
Quỳ Hợp 1 High School has 1,100 students in 30 classes, with 73 staff and teachers. The quality of teaching and learning at the school is constantly improving. In particular, last academic year, 175 students passed the university entrance exams, 79 students scored 20 points or higher, and 2 students achieved 27 points and received commendations from the Provincial People's Committee; Class 12A had 100% of its students admitted to university… Besides the achievements in teaching and learning, the school also always emphasizes and encourages students to participate in competitions and cultural and sports activities. The school won first prize in the team category of the competition "Understanding the 50th Anniversary of Quỳ Hợp District" and won a prize in the online competition "Traffic Safety for a Brighter Tomorrow"…
