Thailand agrees to be 'blue team' for Vietnam Olympics

The Football Association of Thailand has agreed to allow the country's Olympic team to play a friendly match with the Vietnam Olympic team on March 22, ahead of the U23 Asian qualifiers.

The 2016 AFC U23 Championship qualifiers will take place in Malaysia from March 23 to March 31. Vietnam is in Group I with Japan, Macau and host Malaysia. To prepare personnel for the Vietnam Olympic team, coach Toshiya Miura is traveling to all the stadiums to watch the V-League to evaluate and select players.

Thailand has sent a notice accepting the invitation to play a friendly match with Olympic Vietnam, helping VFF complete its preparation plan for the U23 Asian qualifiers.

Vietnam Olympic team will gather in Hanoi on February 24. On March 9, the team will have a friendly match with Indonesia Olympic team. Two days later, Coach Miura and his team will travel to Ho Chi Minh City to compete with Uzbekistan Olympic team on March 14. After the match ends, Vietnam Olympic team will move to Binh Duong. VFF chose Dat Thu as the training location because the climate here is hot, quite similar to Malaysia.

On March 20, the Vietnamese Olympic team will depart for Thailand to play a friendly match with the Olympic team of that country two days later. On March 23, Coach Miura and his team will go to Malaysia to compete in the U23 Asian qualifiers.

According to the schedule, Vietnam Olympic team will meet Malaysia Olympic team on March 27, Macau opponent two days later and Japan Olympic team on March 31. Coach Miura believes that Japan is superior so it is likely to take the top spot in Group I, the remaining ticket to the next round is a one-on-one competition between Vietnam and host Malaysia.
