Ministry of Finance proposes localities to coordinate in managing transportation fares

In order for the management of transportation fares to achieve immediate results as required by the Prime Minister, Minister of Finance Dinh Tien Dung requested that localities pay attention to coordinating with the Ministry of Finance - Ministry of Transport, closely directing local authorities to immediately implement the management of automobile transportation fares.

Meanwhile, transportation fares, especially passenger fares by car, have decreased but not significantly, causing public outrage. On December 22, 2014, the Prime Minister issued Directive No. 36/CT-TTg on strengthening management and operation to stabilize market prices and ensure social order and safety during the 2015 Lunar New Year. Following that, at the meeting of the Inter-Ministerial Working Group on macroeconomic management and operation on January 22, 2015, the Prime Minister assigned the Ministry of Finance to preside over and coordinate with the Ministry of Transport to inspect and control fares in the context of falling gasoline prices, ensuring the legitimate rights of consumers and must be effective immediately before the Lunar New Year.

Implementing the Prime Minister's Directive, the Ministry of Finance has recently directed competent agencies to strengthen the management of automobile transportation fares in accordance with the provisions of the Law on Prices and guiding documents, requiring transportation businesses to re-declare prices corresponding to the new price levels of input factors, first of all gasoline prices; at the same time, post and sell tickets at the correct listed prices. The Ministry of Finance has also coordinated with the Ministry of Transport to continuously organize interdisciplinary delegations to inspect and rectify the management of transportation fares in a number of localities.

In order for the management of transportation fares to achieve immediate results as required by the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Finance requests that the Secretary and Chairman of the People's Committee of the province or centrally-run city pay attention to coordinating with the Inter-Ministerial Committee and closely direct local authorities to immediately implement the management of automobile transportation fares.

At the same time, request automobile transport businesses to re-declare fares in accordance with the gasoline price level within the prescribed time; post and sell at the re-declared listed prices approved by the price management agency; Organize inspections, detect and strictly handle violations in accordance with the law on prices, promptly announce on mass media, create pressure to comply with the law in transport businesses and be effective right during the Lunar New Year.
