Minister of Health Nguyen Thi Kim Tien affirmed at the press conference on the 2014 Humanitarian Medical Examination and Treatment and Community Health Care Campaign on the morning of November 2.

According to Minister Tien, in remote, ethnic minority, border and island areas, poor people still do not have full access to medical services.

People have difficult travel conditions, some hospitals and medical stations lack human resources, facilities, equipment and technology, so they cannot meet people's health care needs.

Therefore, the Ministry of Health set a target of at least 1 million people receiving free medical examination, treatment and health consultation.

The Minister informed about the campaign's activities such as: organizing humanitarian medical examinations and treatments, providing free medicine in the community and at medical examination and treatment facilities; health examinations for people with health insurance cards; detecting serious cases to promptly refer them for treatment. Health consultation, guidance on knowledge and skills for disease prevention, accident and injury prevention, personal hygiene, environmental sanitation, proper nutrition, safety, etc.

At the press conference, Mr. Nguyen Hai Duong, Chairman of the Vietnam Red Cross Society, said that this is the first year that the steering committee and 4 agencies (Vietnam Red Cross Society in coordination with the Ministry of Health, the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People's Army, and the Central Committee of the Vietnam Young Physicians Association) have coordinated to organize a humanitarian medical examination and treatment program and provide community health care.

The campaign aims to promote propaganda about the meaning of humanitarian medical examination and treatment activities, mobilizing the participation of the whole society in this activity.

The main subjects are the poor, social policy families, ethnic minorities in 63 provinces and cities, with priority given to poor districts, remote areas, border areas and islands.

This year's humanitarian medical examination, treatment and community health care campaign has the theme "Joining hands for community health".

Immediately after the launching ceremony, 8 teams will launch humanitarian medical examination and treatment in poor districts of Lang Son, Hoa Binh, Thanh Hoa, Lai Chau, Cao Bang, Son La, Phu Tho, and Hanoi.

At the same time, in 17/63 provinces and cities across the country, the Red Cross at all levels coordinated with the health sector, the military force and the Young Doctors Association to simultaneously launch a campaign to respond to the humanitarian medical examination and treatment campaign.
