(Baonghean.vn) - On the afternoon of February 5, the Government held an online conference to evaluate the implementation of policies and laws on poverty reduction in 2014 and the direction and tasks for 2015; and report on the results of reviewing, amending and supplementing poverty reduction policies.
Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung chaired the conference, also attended by Deputy Prime Minister Vu Van Ninh, Head of the Central Steering Committee on Sustainable Poverty Reduction. The online conference had the participation of 63 provinces and cities. At Nghe An bridge, Comrade Hoang Viet Duong - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee chaired, also attended by representatives of the Provincial Fatherland Front Committee, Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, Office of the Provincial People's Committee, Provincial Social Policy Bank, a number of relevant unions and organizations.

The conference listened to comrade Pham Thi Hai Chuyen - Minister of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs report on the results of poverty reduction in 2014 and the direction and tasks for 2015. In 2014, it was emphasized that although the country's socio-economic conditions continued to face difficulties, the Party, National Assembly and Government continued to prioritize the allocation of resources for poverty reduction and social security to implement policies and programs on poverty reduction. A number of policies for poor households, near-poor households and newly escaped poverty households were amended, supplemented and newly issued, creating conditions for the poor and poor households to better access investment resources and support policies of the State.

The conference heard 17 opinions from provinces and sectors about the results, lessons learned and issues raised regarding the mechanisms for implementing hunger eradication and poverty reduction in 2015 and the coming years to achieve good results.
In the conclusion of the conference, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung requested the Steering Committee to absorb opinions, based on functions and tasks to promote the achieved results, experiences, good practices, overcome weaknesses and limitations, and focus on directing to achieve the targets and objectives set by the Resolutions of the Party Central Committee and the National Assembly in 2015. The Prime Minister highly appreciated the efforts made in poverty reduction and the practical contributions of this activity to ensuring political stability and national development. The Prime Minister also requested the Steering Committee and sectors, provinces and cities to seriously acknowledge the notable shortcomings and limitations such as: Poverty reduction is still unstable and unsustainable, the number of households falling back into poverty is still high, the number of poor households in poor districts is still high, especially poor households among ethnic minorities is high. All levels and sectors are required to have proper awareness of the importance of poverty reduction work, thereby having a sense of responsibility and allocating appropriate resources so that poverty reduction work becomes increasingly practical and effective and achieves the goals and plans of 2015 and the coming time.
