Fishermen from Quynh Luu set sail at the beginning of the year.
(Baonghean.vn) - After warm and happy Tet holidays spent with family and loved ones, on the mornings of the 4th and 5th of Tet, fishermen in coastal communes of Quynh Luu district such as Tien Thuy, Quynh Nghia, Quynh Long, Son Hai... began their first fishing trip of the year, hoping for favorable weather and abundant catches of shrimp and fish.
On the morning of the 5th day of the Lunar New Year, at Lach Quen - Tien Thuy and Lach Thoi - Son Hai, dozens of fishing boats belonging to local fishermen began to weigh anchor and hoist sails, heading out to sea with a sense of urgency and enthusiasm for the start of the year's fishing season. On shore, many fishermen were also actively preparing fishing gear, fuel, ice, and food supplies to load onto their boats in time for their first fishing trip of the year.
In 2015, fishermen in Quynh Luu ventured out to sea with the belief and hope of catching a bountiful harvest. According to some experienced fishermen, this year's favorable weather promised an abundant catch. With its strong seafood exploitation capabilities, Quynh Luu currently boasts the largest and most powerful fleet of fishing vessels in the province.
The entire Quynh Luu district currently has 1,272 boats and ships with a total capacity of 250,020 horsepower (HP), averaging 208 HP per vessel. In 2014, the people invested in building 95 new vessels and decommissioning 32, bringing the total number of offshore fishing vessels in the district to 662, an increase of 63 vessels compared to 2013, accounting for 50% of the entire province. Of these, 256 vessels have a capacity of over 400 HP. Notably, in 2014, three new vessels with a capacity of 1,126 HP were built: the NA90448TS vessel owned by Mr. Ho Tiep from Quynh Nghia commune, the NA99668TS vessel owned by Mr. Ha Duc Trung, and the NA99777TS vessel owned by Mr. Bui Van Loc from Tien Thuy commune. Each new vessel was valued at over 7 billion VND. These are also the three vessels with the highest capacity in the province. Thanks to this, fishermen have even more opportunities to venture into vast fishing grounds such as the Paracel and Spratly Islands…
