The US bans many types of functional foods.
Currently, many Vietnamese consumers prefer to use American functional foods, most of which are hand-carried. However, recently, US judicial authorities have issued a notice banning the circulation of some types of functional foods of herbal origin throughout the state of New York, because these products do not ensure quality and contain some ingredients that are not clearly stated on the packaging.

The New York State Department of Health press release said the banned products include: Korean ginseng Gingseng, St. Johns Wort, Gingko Biloba, Garlic, Echinacea, Valerian Root, and Saw Palmetto, all of which are manufactured by GNC, Up & Up, Finest Nutrition, and Spring Valley.
The test results showed that up to 79% of these products did not contain the herbs as advertised. Notably, 39% of the functional foods contained some substances that were not listed on the packaging.
