Nghe An General Hospital: Reaching New Heights
(Baonghean) - 2014 was a significant milestone in the construction and development of Nghe An Friendship Multi-specialty Hospital, marked by the inauguration of the new hospital building in May 2014 and the relocation of the hospital from its old location (138 Nguyen Phong Sac Street, Vinh City) to its new location (Le Nin Avenue, Vinh City) on October 1, 2014.

In 2014, Nghe An Friendship General Hospital continued to make significant strides in the province's medical field by successfully implementing many advanced, specialized, and modern medical techniques such as: open-heart surgery, kidney transplantation; laryngeal cancer surgery; endoscopic surgery for esophageal cancer, stomach cancer, lung cancer; endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) for stone and worm removal; brain tumor surgery, severe spinal cord injury surgery; cataract surgery using the Phaco method; cochlear implant surgery; fibrinolytic therapy; Interventions in cerebral and hepatic blood vessels, etc. Implementation of new techniques: Holter electrocardiography, Pro-BNP, diagnosis of Dengue IgM and Dengue IgG, Herpes Virus IgM and Herpes Virus IgG, elimination of large liver flukes using ELISA technique… These advanced, new techniques are the result of many years of preparation in terms of human resources, facilities, and legal framework, and simultaneously mark a new stage of development and a new level for the province's health sector, recognized and highly appreciated by leading doctors, medical professionals, and experts from the central government.
Based on the separation of old departments to establish new ones, Nghe An Friendship General Hospital currently has 46 departments and wards (an increase of 15 departments and wards compared to before). Of these, the outpatient examination and treatment block has 2 departments, capable of handling more than 1,000 examinations per day. The inpatient treatment block has 22 departments, and the technical and professional services block has 14 departments. The separation of departments and wards has established a highly specialized system, with the expectation of meeting the increasing demand for medical examination and treatment from people inside and outside the province in the future. The quality of the staff is constantly improving, meeting the standards of a Class I hospital. Currently, the hospital has 949 staff members, including: 2 PhDs, 13 specialists (Level II), 44 masters, 32 specialists (Level I), 3 resident doctors, 1 pharmacist (Level I), 172 doctors, 5 masters in other specialties, and many staff members with IELTS foreign language proficiency.

To achieve these accomplishments, in addition to the attention of the Ministry of Health, the Provincial Party Committee, the Provincial People's Council, the Provincial People's Committee, as well as the Department of Health and related agencies and departments, the continuous efforts of the leadership and all staff of the Hospital must be acknowledged. The Hospital has always considered training and improving the professional skills and quality of doctors and medical staff as a key and breakthrough step to achieving success. In 2014, following the development orientation of a Grade I hospital, with the goal of continuously improving the quality of its current workforce, the Hospital invested in in-depth professional development and organized advanced training courses. Specifically, the Hospital is currently sending 8 PhDs, 6 resident doctors, 25 master's doctors, 1 master pharmacist, 11 specialists (Level I), 15 specialists, 31 staff members for orientation training, and 24 staff members with international foreign language certificates for training. In addition, training of highly specialized medical staff, combined with the transfer of treatment techniques in specialties such as open-heart surgery, thoracic surgery, vascular surgery, esophageal surgery, stroke, neurosurgery, and spinal surgery, aims to improve the skills of staff to perform advanced techniques and meet the healthcare needs of the people.
Along with professional development and serving the training orientation for future staff, the hospital sends its key personnel and management staff to participate in management and political training courses. Specifically, 5 staff members participated in hospital management training, 3 staff members in advanced political training, and 1 staff member in intermediate political training.

As the leading hospital in the province, the hospital has trained 239 staff members, including doctors, technicians, nurses, midwives, and medical assistants from general hospitals, district health centers, and commune health stations in various specialties: orthopedics, surgery, internal medicine, emergency medicine, obstetrics, laboratory testing, ultrasound and X-ray, anesthesia and resuscitation, etc. In addition, in 2014, the hospital transferred 9 techniques under Project 1816 to district hospitals in Anh Son, Que Phong, Quy Chau, Quynh Luu, and Tay Bac General Hospital. Of these, 30 staff members received the training.
Furthermore, Nghe An Friendship General Hospital always prioritizes innovation in management and promotes administrative reform. Last year, the hospital opened additional reception counters in the One-Stop Outpatient Clinic, increased staff to welcome and guide patients, assigned personnel to handle registration procedures, escorted patients directly to departments, deployed equipment and testing systems to departments, and shortened the time for delivering results to better serve patients. Public service is available 24/7 at the leadership office, along with a suggestion box system and hotline, ensuring timely reception and handling of patient feedback. The improvement in medical ethics, work style, and attitude of doctors and nurses has earned increasing trust and appreciation from the public, resulting in a growing number of patients seeking examination and treatment at the hospital. Throughout the year, the hospital received numerous compliments and expressions of gratitude from patients and their families, commending the efforts and dedication of the medical staff and employees in caring for patients.
2015 was identified as a breakthrough year for Nghe An Friendship General Hospital, with the central task being to strive to complete and exceed planned targets, organize medical examination and treatment effectively, strengthen hospital management, and improve the skills of staff and employees in conjunction with the campaign to study and follow the moral example of Ho Chi Minh, the project to improve medical ethics and the code of conduct of the Ministry of Health. The hospital encouraged the development of new and advanced techniques, perfected existing techniques, and improved the quality of treatment; consolidated new departments and wards to ensure stable operation according to the structure of a Grade I hospital; focused on staff training, scientific research, guidance for lower-level hospitals, and the implementation of Project 1816; strengthened international integration and cooperation with domestic hospitals; and accelerated the implementation of the hospital's projects according to plan. In particular, the Board of Directors, staff, and medical team are implementing the hospital's development plan until 2015 and its implementation until 2020; at the same time, they are striving to bring the new hospital into effective operation to serve the healthcare needs of the people.
