According to The Economic Times on December 17, after the brutal terrorist attack in the Pakistani city of Peshawar that killed more than 100 children, the Indian Ministry of Home Affairs plans to send advisors to all states to request the deployment of security precautions for schools and institutions.

The new guidelines will include requiring schools to have emergency exits for students in the event of a terrorist attack; training teachers and security guards on how to prevent hostage situations; keeping school gates closed when students are in class and only allowing visitors with appropriate badges.

An Indian home ministry official said states cannot deploy police and security forces to each school, so private schools must hire their own security personnel and install security cameras, and set up command and control centres for their schools.

However, states will be required to deploy mobile police vehicles at locations near schools to intervene in emergencies.
