(Baonghean.vn) - On February 16th, the Nghe An Provincial Police deployed measures to prevent and control firecracker use during the Lunar New Year of the Goat 2015.

Colonel Lu Van Tuong, Deputy Director of the Provincial Police, chaired the conference. Attendees included leaders from various departments of the provincial police, the Department of Information and Communications, and central and local press agencies.

Overview of the Conference.

During the end of 2014, especially leading up to the Lunar New Year of 2015, the situation regarding fireworks violations in Nghe An province became complex. In the last four months of the year, police units and localities discovered and arrested 260 cases involving 352 individuals, seizing 1.82 tons of fireworks. Besides Chinese fireworks smuggled into Vietnam via sea and land routes, there was also a growing problem of domestic fireworks production. Police forces discovered and arrested several individuals involved in the illegal production of fireworks, initiated legal proceedings in 42 cases involving 57 defendants, tried 30 cases involving 45 defendants; handled 124 cases involving 182 individuals for administrative violations, and are currently investigating and consolidating files for 94 cases involving 113 individuals for processing according to the law.

The Vinh City Police leadership affirmed that they will organize armed patrols on New Year's Eve to prevent firework explosions.

During the Lunar New Year holiday of the Year of the Goat, especially on New Year's Eve, the Provincial Police deployed 26 officers and soldiers, divided into 18 task forces, directly to the communes and wards to coordinate with the Vinh City Police in preventing and combating firecrackers. In addition, 5 inspection teams from the provincial police will be present in various localities throughout the province to inspect, supervise, and guide the prevention and control of firecracker-related violations on New Year's Eve of the Lunar New Year 2015.

At the conference, leaders of the provincial police departments proposed measures to prevent firecrackers during Tet, especially on New Year's Eve, such as armed patrols to control firecrackers, and campaigns to encourage people to surrender firecrackers.
