After reviewing all bridges on the national highway system, the General Department of Roads has requested the removal of weight limit signs on 943 out of 1,488 bridges; signs have been re-erected on 490 bridges; and the remaining 55 bridges retain their existing weight limit signs due to low load capacity and ongoing basic construction investment projects.

Notably, many bridges built since 2004, with their design load capacity still intact, are being restricted by many management units with a load limit of 30 tons, as specified in the design documents.

In addition, management units have placed unnecessary load limit signs on small culverts; bridge sections with a spacing of no more than 6m still have load limit signs; and bridges designed for two lanes of traffic are actually narrow and only have one lane...

The General Department of Roads also requested emergency repairs to bridges with minor damage to remove signs or increase the load capacity.

In the coming period, data related to 1,488 bridges will be updated into the bridge management software (VBMS); weak bridges will be classified, prioritized, and repair plans will be developed. Bridges that are too weak to be repaired effectively will be transferred to the basic construction phase.

In addition, the General Department of Roads has directed the removal of 614 inappropriate speed limit signs on national highways; adjusted 385 speed limit signs and signs indicating densely populated areas, and removed all speed limit signs below 40 km/hour.
