National U19 Final: VPF wins youth tournament for the first time

(Baonghean.vn) - After 90 minutes of a goalless final, both teams had to decide the winner by a nerve-wracking penalty shootout. VPF won the 2015 Ton Hoa Sen Cup National U19 Championship, officially pushing their opponent HN T&T to become the former champion of the tournament.

Entering the final, both teams were too cautious in approaching the match, so the events on the field became boring.

In the first half, coach Huu Dang instructed his players to play low and respect the strategy of tight defense and quick counterattacks.

Meanwhile, even though the opponent gave them the field and control of the game, coach Minh Duc's students did not push up but played slowly.

Almost throughout the first half, both teams mainly used long passes, or attacked the wing and crossed the ball inside for the strikers to handle. Therefore, the number of dangerous opportunities in the first 45 minutes of the first match was almost non-existent.

The second half was no different from the first. The midfield was crowded and contested by both teams but neither team could get a clear shot at the other's goal.

Although both coaches used all their substitutions, they were mainly to strengthen the defense, leading the match to a nerve-wracking penalty shootout.

VPF (blue shirt) was luckier on the 11m mark and won the championship cup.

The final match had to be decided on penalties. For the first time, VPF was crowned champion in a youth tournament in the VFF competition system thanks to the talent of goalkeeper Nguyen Thanh Tuan (1 VPF) when he blocked 3 shots from players Huu Son, Quang Hai, Thanh Chung of HN T&T, helping the home team win with a final score of 4-3 in the penalty shootout.

The VPF champion team was crowned for the first time.

At the end of the tournament, the VPF team, in addition to winning the championship, cup, medals and 60 million VND in prize money, also received the “Style” team prize and 10 million VND in prize money. Goalkeeper Nguyen Thanh Tuan (1 VPF) won the individual title “Best Goalkeeper of the tournament”.

Meanwhile, in addition to receiving a silver medal and a bonus of 30 million VND, captain Nguyen Huu Son received the "Best Player" award. This year's "Top scorer of the final round" belonged to player Nguyen Tuan Linh of B.Binh Duong.
