According to OSDH, in addition to the civilian victims, there were also about 60 jihadists considered enemies of IS. These fighters were members of the Al-Nusra Front organization – an affiliate of Al-Qaeda and other rebel movements in Syria. And finally, there were about 483 remaining victims who were soldiers who pledged allegiance to the Bashar al-Assad regime.
The OSDH said many IS victims were beheaded and their bodies were hung in public places to “intimidate people or organizations that intend to stand up against the Islamic State”. This action was also aimed at “terrorizing the international community and attracting more militants to join their ranks”.
On Sunday, November 16, the Sunni terrorist group released a video showing the execution of 18 soldiers of the Bashar al-Assad regime. Also on Sunday, IS announced that it had executed American hostage Peter Kassig, who had been held by them for a year. The US government immediately verified this information. President Obama strongly condemned the execution of Peter Kassig and declared it an "unforgivable" and "inhumane" crime. The executions carried out by IS have shocked and outraged the world and increasingly demonstrated the evil and horrifying nature of this extremist terrorist group.
