Official sources indicate that the main purpose of Thai Prime Minister Chan-o-cha's visit to Myanmar is to promote bilateral cooperation, strengthen economic ties between the two countries, and advance the long-delayed Dawei deep-sea port project and industrial real estate projects in the Tanintharyi region of southern Myanmar, as proposed by Thailand.

Prime Minister Chan-o-cha is expected to hold talks with the host country's President U Thein Sein and other high-ranking Myanmar officials.

The leaders of the two countries will focus on discussing issues of mutual interest, including trade, border security, and the issue of Myanmar migrant workers in Thailand.

According to Myanmar's statistics, Thailand is currently its key trading partner. Trade turnover between the two countries reached over $5.6 billion in the 2013-2014 period.

In addition, Thailand is the second largest foreign investor in Myanmar, with investments totaling US$10.114 billion across 74 projects as of June 2014, accounting for 21.65% of total foreign investment in Myanmar.
