From December 1, 2014, E5 bio-fuel will be sold in 7 major cities and provinces of our country. In response to people's doubts about this new fuel, a series of studies have shown that E5 fuel has many advantages over conventional fuel.

Increase capacity, reduce consumption

According to Dr. Pham Huu Tuyen, Head of the Engine Laboratory at the Institute of Dynamic Mechanics, Hanoi University of Science and Technology, E5 biofuel in Vietnam is a mixture of 5% ethanol and 95% regular gasoline.

Ethanol increases the anti-knock ability of fuel; biofuel has high oxygen content, helping the combustion process in the engine to be more thorough, increasing capacity, reducing fuel consumption and minimizing the emission of toxic substances in engine exhaust. Most developed countries use biofuel to protect the environment.

No harm to engine

The General Department of Standards, Metrology and Quality denies the possibility that the quality of bio-fuel E5 to E10 affects vehicle engines.

E5 bio-fuel meets standards and is circulated on the market and safe for users when applied in accordance with Vietnamese standards and regulations issued by the Ministry of Science in 2009.

Scientists also confirm that E5 to E10 are common gasoline and when used, current engines do not need to be converted.

Dr. Pham Huu Tuyen affirmed that E5 gasoline has absolutely no negative effects on the engine. E5 gasoline only benefits and does not harm the engine!

With a higher oxygen content than regular gasoline, the combustion process in the engine takes place more thoroughly, increasing capacity. Using E5 gasoline helps improve engine performance. Using E5 is very convenient, there is no need to adjust the engine when switching between E5 fuel and regular gasoline.

Reduce environmental pollution

Air pollution is increasingly affecting human health, partly due to the fact that there are currently over 30 million motorbikes and about 1 million gasoline-powered cars in Vietnam. The total amount of toxic emissions polluting the environment each year will be significantly reduced when using E5/E10 gasoline.

Using E5 gasoline helps to significantly reduce the amount of polluting emissions, especially CO (up to 44%), Hydrocarbon (up to 25%) and NOx (up to 10%).

Through experiments, engines using E5 bio-fuel produce very little CO and HC emissions, much less than common gasolines such as A92 and A95 by 20%. Therefore, E5 gasoline can be considered environmentally friendly. As we know, CO emissions are very toxic, and CO emissions are very high in motorcycle engines. The combustion process in engines using E5 is improved thanks to a more even mixture of air and fuel due to the good evaporation ability of E5. In addition, the presence of oxygen in E5 is a factor that helps the fuel burn in conditions that are not too lacking in oxygen (burning with a leaner mixture than in the case of gasoline engines using RON92 gasoline fuel) and burn completely. This is the basis for creating less toxic CO and HC emissions.

In addition, new vehicles today have exhaust treatment systems, combined with the use of E5 gasoline, the amount of toxic gases emitted into the environment will be significantly reduced.

Long shelf life

Research has proven that E5 gasoline does not change its quality at all over a period of 3 months. These studies have proven that E5 gasoline does not change its quality at all over a long period of time, so vehicles that are not used regularly for less than 3 months can safely use E5 gasoline without fear of affecting the engine.

The Prime Minister has just decided to issue a roadmap for applying the blending ratio of biofuels with traditional fuels. From December 1, 2015, gasoline produced, blended, and sold for use in road vehicles consumed nationwide is E5 gasoline.

According to the Prime Minister's decision, this roadmap applies to organizations and individuals that produce, mix, distribute and trade gasoline and oil in Vietnam for gasoline and diesel engines of road motor vehicles, except for special gasoline and oil for the military and police serving defense and security purposes as prescribed by the Ministry of National Defense and the Ministry of Public Security.

Specifically, for E5 gasoline, from December 1, 2014, gasoline produced, mixed, and sold for use in road motor vehicles consumed in 7 provinces and cities: Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Hai Phong, Da Nang, Can Tho, Quang Ngai, and Ba Ria - Vung Tau is E5 gasoline.

From December 1, 2015, gasoline produced, blended, and sold for use in road motor vehicles consumed nationwide is E5 gasoline.

Regarding E10 gasoline, from December 1, 2016, gasoline produced, blended, and sold for use in road motor vehicles consumed in 7 provinces and cities: Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Hai Phong, Da Nang, Can Tho, Quang Ngai, and Ba Ria - Vung Tau is E10 gasoline.

From December 1, 2017, gasoline produced, blended, and sold for use in road motor vehicles consumed nationwide is E10 gasoline.

During the period when the mixing ratio is not yet applied according to the roadmap, the Government encourages organizations and individuals to produce, blend and trade E5, E10 gasoline and B5 and B10 diesel.

There are about 60 countries in the world that commonly use biofuels E5 and E10 and also have programs requiring the use of biofuels.
