Consumer goods made in China are the least safe in Europe

On March 24, Voice of America cited statistics from the European Commission (EC) saying that goods made in China (including Hong Kong) accounted for the largest part of the list of nearly 2,500 unsafe consumer goods consumed in 2014 in the European market.

Among these products, toys accounted for the largest proportion at 28%, followed by clothing (23%) and electrical appliances (9%).

EU Commissioner for Justice, Consumer Affairs and Gender Equality Vera Jourova said that about 64% of the total, equivalent to 1,501 products, originated from China. This proportion is equivalent to 2013.

According to Ms. Jourova, the high proportion of “made in China” consumer goods on the list of unsafe products worries Europeans. The EU is currently actively communicating with Chinese manufacturers to help them better understand EU safety standards.

It is known that the EU is currently China's largest trading partner, and China is also Europe's second largest trading partner, after the US. The average daily bilateral trade turnover is up to more than 1 billion USD./.
