Seminar "Ho Chi Minh City: 40 Years of Construction, Development, and Integration"

(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of March 17th, the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee solemnly organized a scientific conference with the theme "Ho Chi Minh City: 40 Years of Construction, Development, and Integration".

Attendees included former President Nguyen Minh Triet; former Prime Minister Phan Van Khai; Politburo member and Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Le Thanh Hai; Central Committee member and Head of the Central Economic Committee Vuong Dinh Hue; Central Committee member and Deputy Head of the Central Internal Affairs Committee Phan Dinh Trac; Central Committee member and Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Le Hoang Quan; and nearly 500 delegates including leaders from central and local ministries and agencies; veteran revolutionaries, generals, scholars, scientists, researchers, intellectuals, and religious dignitaries.

Mr. Vuong Dinh Hue, Head of the Central Economic Committee, delivered a presentation at the seminar.

In her opening remarks at the conference, Ms. Nguyen Thi Quyet Tam, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee and Chairwoman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council, stated: Forty years ago, under the leadership of the Party, with the national spirit of "Fighting to the death for the Fatherland," the resistance war against the US, culminating in the victorious Spring 1975 General Offensive and Uprising - the Ho Chi Minh Campaign, resulted in national reunification, North and South Vietnam becoming one, and the entire country embarking on the construction of socialism. With this significance, the City organized the scientific conference: "Ho Chi Minh City - 40 Years of Construction, Development and Integration" to accurately assess the achievements, difficulties, limitations, and weaknesses in order to overcome them, draw lessons, and develop a vision for the cause of construction, development, and integration in the new era.

According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Quyet Tam: At this conference, the historical significance and value of the lessons learned are once again analyzed, evaluated, and researched with a new vision and approach to various fields from the practical experience of 40 years of the city's construction, development, and integration; a deeper understanding of the leadership and guidance of the Central Party Committee, the National Assembly, and the Government; the support and assistance of central committees, ministries, branches, the Fatherland Front, and mass organizations; and the close cooperation of localities nationwide with the city; and a deep appreciation for the hard work, dedication, creativity, and compassion of the city's people over the past 40 years that have built the city today with a new appearance, a new vitality, and a new stature. This achievement is thanks to the contributions of the entire political system and the unity of each citizen; therefore, the political system is constantly being strengthened; and political stability and social order are maintained. The economy, culture, society, education, healthcare, science and technology, urban management, etc., are developing rapidly; national unity is being promoted and strengthened; the quality of life for the people is improving; and integration into the region and many countries and the world economy is becoming increasingly deep and broad.

Party Secretary of Ho Chi Minh City, Le Thanh Hai, held a discussion on the sidelines of the seminar with Phan Dinh Trac, Deputy Head of the Standing Committee of the Central Internal Affairs Commission.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Quyet Tam affirmed: Stemming from love and responsibility for the City, and working together with and for the City, Party and State leaders, veteran revolutionaries, generals, scholars, scientists, researchers, intellectuals, and religious dignitaries have enthusiastically written over 100 papers to submit to this conference.

This seminar is a practical and scientifically significant undertaking by the City in the series of activities commemorating the 40th anniversary of the liberation of Saigon, the complete liberation of Southern Vietnam, and the reunification of the country. With 40 years of experience in construction, development, and integration, overcoming all difficulties and challenges, and striving to "build Ho Chi Minh City into a civilized and modern city with the role of a special urban center, leading the cause of industrialization and modernization, making increasingly significant contributions to the region and the whole country; gradually becoming a major center of economy, finance, trade, science and technology of the country and the Southeast Asian region; actively contributing to making our country fundamentally an industrialized nation in the modern direction by 2020".
