(Baonghean) - Late at night, the Ky Son border is freezing cold. At Economic - Defense Group 4 (Military Region 4), the sound of engines is still running, bustling with people.

Washing arrowroot to produce vermicelli at Economic Group - Military Zone 4.

Understanding my curiosity, Colonel Nguyen Huy Hoang, Political Commissar of Group 4 said: “That is the sound of washing machines, root grinders and flour mixers at the group’s cassava processing workshop. It is estimated that this year, the people in Nam Can and Na Ngoi communes... will harvest cassava twice as much as last year. To consume all of that cassava, the unit opened another vermicelli processing workshop; at the same time, encouraged the officers and employees in the Processing Team to work actively day and night...”.

Lieutenant Colonel Dang Hoai Nam, Head of the Arrowroot Processing Team, shared: “This is the main arrowroot harvest time of the year, so the amount of arrowroot raw materials brought in by the people can reach more than 25 tons per day. We try to work extra at night to be able to purchase arrowroot for the people on time...”.

Lieutenant La Quang Trung, an employee of the Processing Team, confided: “The weather was cold and we were constantly exposed to water, so our hands and feet were freezing. But when we saw the excited faces of the ethnic people who came to import cassava, we told each other to work day and night to buy all the cassava for the people. Because if we harvest and leave it for too long, the cassava will sprout or rot, which would be a waste of the people's efforts to grow and care for it all year long... We had to work overtime at night, but we were all happy.”

It is known that during the cassava harvest season of the local people, the officers and employees of the Processing Team often work until 1-2 am, with the thought of sharing the hardships and difficulties of the ethnic people in this remote border area.
