(Baonghean) - A keen eye, a witty smile, and a simple demeanor are the impressions one gets when meeting Senior Lieutenant Nguyen Huu Phong (born in 1986) - Head of the Criminal Investigation Team for Economic, Drug, and Environmental Crimes, Tuong Duong District Police. He is also known as an energetic and enthusiastic youth union secretary, implementing many activities to ensure political security and social order, contributing to the socio-economic development of the locality.

Born and raised in Vinh City, Nguyen Huu Phong's childhood dream was to emulate his father, a People's Police officer, on his long and perilous assignments to combat crime and maintain security and order. After graduating from high school in 2004, he passed the entrance exam to the People's Police Academy, specializing in drug crime prevention. Upon graduation in 2009, he was assigned to work in the mountainous district of Tuong Duong, where he remains to this day. Armed with the knowledge he gained during his studies and the enthusiasm of youth, Phong consistently studies, researches, and improves his professional skills, successfully completing all assigned tasks.

He also identified, combated, and expelled groups of individuals linked with local people who used firearms to organize the illegal trafficking of drugs in the Doc Moi area (bordering the three communes of Yen Na, Thach Giam, and Xa Luong) and in the Pu Huot area, Khe Quynh village (bordering Xieng My commune - Tuong Duong district and Binh Chuan commune - Con Cuong district). In addition to his duties in combating drug crimes, Lieutenant Nguyen Huu Phong also participated in investigating, detecting, and arresting many cases related to economic crimes, official misconduct, and environmental crimes. Typical examples include arresting one suspect for "Abusing official position and authority to misappropriate property," two suspects for "Destroying forests," and one case involving four suspects violating regulations on forest exploitation and protection...

Besides excelling in his professional duties, Lieutenant Nguyen Huu Phong also manages his time effectively to participate in Youth Union activities, actively engaging in cultural, artistic, and sports activities, and participating in activities organized by the local authorities and the force. As an exemplary Youth Union secretary in emulation movements, he actively directs the branch to develop plans for nighttime armed patrols, ensuring security and order; he also performs well in Party development work, contributing to building a cleaner and stronger Party branch and Youth Union organization. Phong shared: “In recent years, drug-related crimes have become increasingly sophisticated and cunning, with a growing level of recklessness, including many offenders from other provinces coming to the locality to commit crimes. Most of them, when detected and apprehended, are ready to resist fiercely. Each encounter with criminals is a dangerous one, a harsh test for both the team and individuals. But with a sense of responsibility, we must strive to overcome these challenges and achieve victories.”

Commenting on the dynamic Youth Union officer, Colonel Nguyen Van Hung, Head of the Tuong Duong District Police, said: “During his work, Lieutenant Phong has always been highly appreciated for his dynamism, perceptiveness, resourcefulness, and timely advice to the unit's leaders and commanders in combating and dismantling many criminal gangs and groups. Recently, he was entrusted by the leadership to be appointed as Deputy Team Leader of the Criminal Investigation Team for Criminal, Economic, and Drug-related Crimes…” With his achievements, in the two years (2012-2013), he was commended as an "Advanced Youth in the movement of 'Youth of the People's Public Security studying and implementing the 6 teachings of Uncle Ho'"; he received Certificates of Merit from the Ministry of Public Security and the Chairman of the People's Committee of Nghe An province, and a Certificate of Commendation from the Director of the Provincial Public Security Department for outstanding achievements in the work of protecting social order and safety. In 2014, he was honored as an Emulation Soldier at the grassroots level. Recently, he was commended by the Tuong Duong District Youth Union as one of the 35 "Outstanding Young Party Members" on the occasion of the 85th anniversary of the founding of the Party (February 3, 2015).
